Description Vue, PS.

Thanks for viewing and comments.
Is vue's GR linked to your Graphics card? 'cos since mine started acting up my GR scenes don't look right. Any thoughts?

May I ask if you ever resolved this issue? Sorry if I'm bugging you like crazy with a million questions, but I am anticipating working with Vue and trying learn everything I can. ^__^;

No problem, i was also quite filled with questions when i stsrted vue.
I sorta solved it.I think my vue was kinda corrupt. I re-installed it and it worked.
And when i opened the same a scene in newer version of vue, it was perfect.

Very nice scene. Reminds me of a stroll down an old country road in the south. I have troubles with my video cards too. Not sure why, but I have 2 ati hd 5770s.

I read somewhere Vue 8 onwards has some issues with some cards! I had the 275gtx, trying to upgrade to 480 or 485 so i am using an old 7300 and vue 8 doesnt run on it. Now i am not getting good GR. ooo my woes.

aye..... it does hurt lol, not to mention my motherboard decides how much ram it wants to run whenever i shut it down and turn it back on again.

All the graphics card does for Vue is the OpenGL preview renders, and previewing ecosystems in real time. Try viewing your GR renders on a different computer because it could be linked to the display, rather than with Vue.

Are you meaning the grainy look to your volume lighting? Or something else?

Thanks very much for the tip.
With this image i had to open up the dark areas in PS. Originally the shadows were very dark which is very uncharacteristic of GR especially with gain of like 2. Will try what you suggested though.

The grain is also a problem, any tip would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot!

The grain is to do with the Subrays per pixel dial in the render window (Anti-aliasing menu in the Render Window)
I find that this is most visible when working with area lights.

you'll need to find the right compromise to the render time/quality
you can achieve this two ways, first way is to increase the physical render size, at a higher size there are more pixels to have subrays to, so the grain effect is lessened... (renders over 3000 x 3000 tend to be able to get away with lower settings)

the other way is that you can increase the number of subrays per pixel (default is 4 and 6), increasing this number to 8 and 16 would keep render times fairly sane.

both techniques will increase render times something chronic, but will produce far greater results (you should have seen the test renders for my Jedi image some of them were grainier than raw sugar through speckled glass)

GR= global radiosity? if so, i think no, because the gpu is only used to update the 4 viewports.
nice material for the terrain

Hmmm...then either i am not doing something right or my Vue is messed up. My render is sometimes a far cry from what i see in
the preview render.

Have you checked the GR quality slider in atmosphere options?
But, anyway, the preview render is always a bit different from the "final" one, because of the more precise calculations involved in this one.

When i am working, the slider is usually on the lowest for fast previews
and then i bump it up when i doing the final render. The reason i am asking is, i am
getting very dark, almost black shadow areas even in GR. I usually use a gain of .7, but even at 5, the shadows are very dark in render but perfect in previews. This will force me
to work on the shadows in PS which i hate to do. Thanks for all the help! Very appreciated!
