i thought it's a digital drawing!!! this is fantastic!
i think his hand looks flat in completely black, maybe pull up some highlights? even though there might be none in the ref?

Yeah.. I have to work this over some more in photoshop. I scanned a print of my original piece, not the original it self. The scanned image looks terrible. I'm going to have a friend with some photography experience with a digital camera take a photo. Hopefully that will look better.

The reference was from a photo in a magazine. I think the guy was in a night club which explains the spotlights behind him,but aren't directly on him, and someone probably shined a light on his face, just for the photo. I made up the hat.
