Description
WOW SO HERE I AM UPLOADING THE FIRST PIECE OF ART SINCE I FINISHED COLLEGE BASICALLYGUESS WHAT
IT'S FOR ROUTE.
In any case, hi guys! I'm still around! Just sort of getting used to life after college.
This was a quick thing scribbled up last night and then colored this afternoon.
Gonna say it was about 4 hours in SAI.
Route 29 is a panfandom, Pokemon-based RP hosted on Dreamwidth. And it's pretty epic, if I do say so myself. This picture is for the latest plotline there.
Entei is (c) Nintendo.
Heather is (c) Konami
An Enteiless version of the image can be seen over here .

DF;GHDSG; I've been doing a lot of experimenting lately trying to learn how to digitally paint better, actually! I'm glad it turned out well, I'll probably be trying to do more stuff in the same coloring style in the future! Thank you!

I may try putting some tutorials together sometime about my various coloring methods, although since I'm still learning and trying to find one to stick to, I'm not sure how helpful it'd be! Color method, I think, is the biggest thing I'm still trying to get the hang of. SO WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
But yes, thank you so much! I'll definitely try my best. c:

Oh my goodness! YES. I would try to learn from a tutorial if you made one. 8O I am curious...
What program do you use for coloring, anyway? Photoshop, SAI?
You're very welcome! <3

THIS, for example, was entirely done in SAI with very limited tweaking in Photoshop.
(hit 'post' before I added this, whoops)

XD I'll definitely keep it in mind, then! I don't think I've ever actually made a tutorial before.
And for the most part, I use SAI, usually with some tweaking on colors and stuff in Photoshop. Some of my more detailed pieces use a combination of SAI for the flats and Photoshop for everything else, BUT I haven't honestly done that in awhile and for the most part have been doing all the coloring in SAI since I've been exploring all the different stuff it can do. XD

I'm sure it'll turn out great! I think you'd be good at showing and telling what you do. You seem to explain things well to me!
That's what I thought. I also use SAI a ton (and not so much Photoshop because I've got dinky, but sometimes handy, Photoshoop 7) and I think I kinda know what you did to color it. Though I'm not totally sure, yet. Guess I'll just have to look closer/wait for your tutorial to be released.
... Do you use the Acrylic tool for your blending? Or do you just use the Brush tool and just a bunch of colors? 80

Yeah, SAI is WONDERFUL-- and haha, you've got me beat, actually-- I use Photoshop 5.5, which I'm not totally sure isn't older than I am. XD
And no, I don't think I have-- I've done a few different things, blending-wise. On some pictures, mostly the ones that are actually inked and whose colors I really want to pop, I use the Pen tool (I usually do about three shades to each different color, sometimes more or less depending on the complexity of whatever I'm coloring. Like, skin has a lot more different hues than a piece of cloth in most cases, for example) and then the Blur tool to blend. This and this were all done with the Pen and Blur tools!
For this one, I actually just used the Marker tool and only did the really bold parts of the picture (her eyes, the fire) with the Pen tool. The Marker tool can be a bit of a hassle to get used to, but it's very nice if you want a slightly softer coloring style in something rather than bright and bold. This one was the first one I ever colored using the Marker tool.

Such an amazing program! So smooth... D8 Oh my! That is quite old! Well, if it works for you, why fix what's not a problem? Besides, new Photoshops are expensive. Gotta work with what you got!
The Blur too, huh? Damn. I'll have to try playing around with that more. I'm kind of a stickler about it because... Well, it's the Blur tool. It's got a bad rep and I always feel dumb for using it. Perhaps I should be more open minded about it... It's there for a reason and I'm sure there are good ways of using it. Just gotta use it wisely, I guess.
That's cray-cray! Definately gonna have to give 'em a shot...
The Marker tool, too? Shit, you threw me for a loop. XD I thought for sure I had it figured out... I'll just have to try using that one too, sometime...

Oh my god, right? I'd gotten so used to jittery Photoshop lines that using it was like A WHOLE NEW WORLD except without people flying around on carpets.
5.5 is definitely a dinosaur, but like you said, why fix what ain't broken? I had been considering trying to get a new version but they are ungodly expensive, and, well, 5.5 suits m needs just fine for the moment.
The Blur tool is DEFINITELY best used in moderation, but it can be used well! EITHER THAT OR I'M JUST CHEATING, but OH WELL, YOLO. Pretty much like any other tool, it's mostly a matter of the individual artist.
And YEP, THE MARKER TOOL! It's pretty great tbh-- one trick that I discovered recently is that there's different textures available for it, and you can get all kinds of really neat effects going on with it if you want to do pictures that have a rougher, less polished feel.

Story of my goddamn life when I discovered SAI. And you can definitely tell when I started using it in my drawings because of the line quality. XD;
Well then, I don't see a reason for you to change it, either. You seem to work juuuuust fine in the waters you're in now.
NAH, it's not cheatin'! It's just a scary tool to use, is all. Like I said before, just gotta be more open minded, maaaan. Can't let those Blur-abusing fools stop meeee!
Huh. I know you could do that with the Acrylic tool. Wasn't sure if you could with others. Didn't really check... AS YOU CAN PROBABLY TELL, I use the Acrylic quite a bit. xD; But, YES. I shall investigate this... Tool you speak of... -rubs chin dramatically-

Every time you post stuff from this RP, I want to go check it out and maybe try to join, except I never have a reasonable combination of time, focus, and creativity... ;_;
Awesome pic as always, your art makes me so happy

Hey, you won't hear any complaints from me! If you ever decide to give it a look, toss me a line! I understand about the time, focus and energy, though. My RP 'life' really declined during the last year of college and I'm only now starting to get back on the horse in all my games.
But yeah, thank you very much!

Thanks! It was the first time I'd ever drawn Entei that I can remember, so I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
