I won’t even lie, this is pretty much all that happens in Chapter 1 of Gravity.
While editing chapter 10, I’ve been entertaining the idea of doing tiny cartoon summaries of each chapter (that will probably dissuade people from reading to begin with because they are all stupid) and then compiling them in a photoset once they’re all done.
But I am weak and every time I finish something that isn’t awful I want to show it to the internet.
James spends most of Chapter 1 spacing out and going into traumatic flashbacks, thereby setting the tone for the entire rest of the fic.

I haven't read that chapter in a long time, but as far as I can remember it sums it up quite well 
Also I can be mistaken but isn't it in that first chapter that he's got water in his shoes? I thought I was going to catch a cold just by reading the description of his wet shoes.
I'll probably read it again at some point, it's been a while.

HAHA yep, he's totally soaked and miserable at that point. It's pretty much by divine grace alone that he didn't catch pneumonia or something.
And aw oh man, I'd be honored if you did! The first chapter is still pretty clunky but the story as a whole has been through a lot of edits at this point and there are nine finished chapters instead of ... however many there were back then, haha.

I don't remember which chapter that was, but when I stopped, James was sewing red squares in his clothes to make some sort of memento of everything that happened.

HAHA NO WORRIES, honestly the story is stupidly long (I'm working on the tenth chapter right now, and that's just... the halfway point the story. I can't write a short thing to save my life apparently) so really, there's no rush for anyone to read it. It's not going anywhere any time soon. XD
