Description
When most people had heard that there was a sequel coming, they groaned. The last movie had been a box-office bomb... but then rumor began circulating that Roxy was going to star. Roxy, so-famous-she-only-needed-one-name Roxy. She was the best actress of her generation, a genius whose brilliance hadn't been matched in years, and beautiful to boot, and if anybody could pull the franchise out of the trash, she was the one.But then she began making odd demands, changes in the story, and she hired a bunch of weird occult people on the studio's dime, and there were strange lights coming from her hillside mansion every night. When she finally walked onto the set that fateful day, the director swallowed hard as one of the producers passed out: Maybe asking Roxy to play Spider-Girl wasn't such a good idea after all.

Well, after nearly a year, this is finally done, and it turned out pretty darn well, even without a complex background. Roxy came out lookin' pretty hot, I think, and her pose speaks for itself.
I have no idea really how many hours went into this. I worked on it an hour here and an hour there, and it's probably in the 50-ish or 60-ish range at least. As always, it's entirely done in CorelDRAW with a mouse.
This is dedicated to my friend Anne, who loved the early rough versions of this. Anne recently dislocated her elbow (I didn't even know that was possible!) and has had weeks of physical therapy to recover from it. Here's hoping you feel better, Anne!
I get the song "Roxy Hart" stuck in my head every single time I see this picture >.>
This is available as a print, and to show some of the detail in the print, here's a closeup of Roxy's face.

no, there are some images here that pop up as "blank" in the file-name field on my computer, and thats what they are...blank. So I can only look at them in here, but I cant download them. I dont know why that is, or what I perhaps do wrong. Typicly most of the images I like the most are just like that...

This is the strangest thing: this deviation came up alongside another Spider-Woman related piece in my watch list!
Looks very, very good to say the least. Definitely worth the year's wait just to see this

Spider girl, spider girl... does everything a girl and a spider can do...
Can you imagine her swinging between New York skyscrapers? If that wouldn't stop traffic I don't know what would.
Excellent job!

Awesome work! Like what you did with Spider 'man' idea.
And hope your friend feels better.

This is seriously awesome. Also, I really love how you have a mini-story to go with each picture. I love reading them! ^^

I really like this idea, one of your best yet! But what I would really like to see is spiderwoman(the red one) do up like this one.
Thanks

The red one? I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I think what he/she's talking about is that there were multiple (three, I think) characters in the Spider-Man comic books that used the name "Spider Woman" (can't rememver if it's supposed to be hyphenated). 'Course, with that said, "Spider-Girl" is a whole 'nother can of worms. (<--detail stickler)

I think I understand now, but it's not something I'd be likely to do. I usually explore a concept fully with one picture and then move on to a new picture; it's incredibly rare for me to draw the same character or concept twice.

Jessica Drew! That is what I meant by the red one, the one with the long black hair she would look great a black widow spider like the one that you did.
Thanks

Seriously, I have a wife and a job, and family and friends, and side projects and hobbies too, and pictures of this quality take 40 to 60 hours of my time. Very few pics that I draw will ever reach this stage just due to the sheer amount of time involved. This is why I don't take requests: I don't have the time for them.

I probably should do it more often. I just tend to leave comments and figure that's good enough.

Finally done, huh? Turned out really nice. And it'll really help me out when I'm getting used to drawing a drider every now and then. Legs are tricky beasts (geez that sounded a lot less inappropriate in my head), and yet they're really dang fluid here, for lack a better word.

It just takes practice.
Remember when you're looking at them, though, that she's wearing a costume, and although it's very form-fitting, it still glosses over some of her body's creases and wrinkles: You're not seeing the full shape of her legs because they're covered up.

I understand that much; with what I was talking about, it's a question of "how do I make them look like actual spider legs and not a giant external ribcage", if you know what I mean.

Ohh... heh... there's a trick, actually.
If you want them to look realistic... imagine that they're not legs but very long, very slender fingers.
They have the same number of joints as fingers (the "root" joint" and two outer ones), and they curve the same way, all following the same basic curve, but with the first two segments bending very slightly against the curve of the "leg" and the last one bending very slightly with the curve. The front leg is slightly shorter, unlike an index finger; and the rear leg is slightly longer, unlike a pinky; but the two middle legs nearly match each other in length, just like your middle finger and ring finger do. On a real spider, there are mandibles that could conceptually match up with a "thumb," but I tend to prefer not to have mandibles, so I combine the joints of the thumb with the joints of the index finger to arrive at slightly more flexible (but shorter) front legs, like you see here.
That's how you can get the basic structure correct.
The other way to make them more realistic is to recognize that there's a person attached to them, and a person wouldn't use them the same way a spider would. A spider would just walk on them, but a person would actually intelligently position them, depending on what the person is doing. Roxy, here, is leaning back, and relaxing comfortably, so she's got her front legs crossed, just like she might if she was a person. You can express a lot in body language, and part of the trick is not simply to just draw the legs but to position them in ways that a person would position them, not how a spider would.

ONe thing that might help is that they have 6 "knees" in each leg
