Jesper the male Houndour / Bold / A little quick tempered / {Flash Fire}

- Smog
- Flame Charge
- Flamethrower
- Substitute

This Houndour has been a simple farmer Pokémon with his parents. His mother was a Hondoom in charge of burning down dead forest sections and fields to make way for new crops and possible new farm buildings. (Other Pokémon volunteered or had an official job in it. Those with jobs were paid with crops and lodging on the farm.) Once Jesper was old enough to do more than observe, he worked alongside her, which made for excellent mother-son bonding time, especially since they would travel a lot. Through this, his first interest of becoming a Rescuer surfaced. He saw how Pokémon benefited from the clearing of parasitic plants, dead areas that encroached on habitats, and possible brewing of diseases stemmed from rotting plants. The Pokémon living in these areas would be allowed to make base on the farm until they could find another forest to live in; fortunately, not many Pokémon still lived in these dead areas of forests by the time Jesper and his mother came along.

His father was a Vaporeon, and he was in charge of the crops and the overall well-being of the farm. He has an excellent green thumb, so his farm is renowned for having the healthiest and tastiest crops. The Vapreon is very knowledgeable about plants that have to do with his crops, such as weeds, plants and trees that would coexist with them on the same property, and natural fertilizers. Jesper has only observed his father at work, but the knowledge still seemed to be passed on. He would accompany his father to market with their wares. Although Jesper isn’t fond of haggling and the hectic atmosphere Market Day brought, he can hold his own in a deal and would have made a decent Merchant.

Though he never disliked being a simple farm boy, Jesper set out to become a Rescuer, planning to return and take over the Fire Brigade once he became stronger and his mother planned to retire. Unfortunately for Jesper, as knowledgeable and able-bodied as he was, he wasn't used to working alone. During his trip up north to join the Rescuer’s Guild, once such instance landed him in a situation where he had to be rescued by a passing Sandshrew, Mikko. By chance, this Pokémon also happened to be heading towards the Rescuer’s Guild. They finished their journey up north and decided to join together as a team.

It all went smoothly for them until Mikko decided to leave the team and set off on his own. Though not surprised after observing Mikko’s changing behavior for months, it still left a stinging wound on his heart that never managed to heal properly . His team lasted for a couple of months after that before Jesper decided to leave his team in the hands of a trusted member; he left for Tao Village in the south, planning to start a new slate as a Rescuer. The thought of starting a lone team was dashed when he met Alex.

Jesper used to be somewhat layback and more trusting. However, after seeing how Mikko changed for the worse and left their Rescue team, something happened to his personality. The Houndour is much more serious now and can sometimes lead his new Rescue team like a dictator, something Alex always points out. His strong sense of right and wrong are pretty black and white with little gray. As such, he’s the stereotypical Rescuer that sees Rogues as a bunch of petty criminals with sleeves full of excuses. Jesper rarely jokes, especially when they’re on a mission; he doesn’t want to be distracted.

Despite the bitter resentment he has after Mikko’s “betrayal”, his heart is still kind. He’s always there if somebody needs help and will never turn down someone in need. Unfortunately, he comes off as intimidating, so Pokémon sometimes stay clear away from him until they get to know him. He is loyal to his friends and Guild, so much in fact that he ignores his own wellbeing often. When on a mission, Jesper analyzes the situation as carefully as possible before he makes his move.

On the battle field he specializes in offense with some help of defensive attacks. Jesper may not be the fastest dodger, but he can take hits better than most. Due to this, he’s been known to take hits for teammates and innocent Pokémon, a somewhat reckless thing to do. Due to helping his mother with clearing old, dead plant life and crops, he has amazing control over his fire attacks and is able to manipulate them to do almost anything he desires.

Alex: His feelings for him sways from “little brother” to “equal”. His layback attitude and talent for cracking jokes and laughing at the face of danger annoys him to no end sometimes. Still, Alex’s frankness is refreshing and snaps him from his brooding moments most of the time.

Alexander the male Mienfoo / Adamant / Somewhat of a Clown / {Regenerator}

- Reflect
- Double Team
- Aura Sphere
- Bounce

Alexander is the son of a mayor and his wife in a province known for its excellent commerce and low-crime rate. Since he was young, he would love to wonder off, especially to go off to the circus that made its home in his town. There, he was treated to magic by the magicians and illusionists. Unlike his parents, he wasn’t pompous and didn’t think himself above the common folk and entertainers. They adored him and taught him many of their tricks, and from then on, all Alex could think about was magic.

Eventually, he began to showcase his newfound talent as a street performer, not for money but simply to entertain. The people loved him. His parents, not so much. (“Alex should focus on his studies, not some meaningless hobby.”) Tried as they might, Alex wouldn’t budge from his street corner. He loved it, and that was that.

One day, he didn’t come home. His parents sent people and the police to look for him. Then they waited for the ransom note that was sure to come. Days, then weeks passed, and no note ever arrived. Rather than being kidnapped for being the son of an influential family, the young Mienfoo was taken by a traveling caravan for his magic tricks. They had left the region before Alex’s family could locate them, never knowing who they had in their hands At first, Alex tried everything to escape, but soon, he found himself liking the performances, the traveling, and the new family that supported his talent. They treated him like a little brother, often remarking how lucky they were to find such a talented street kid that could grow up to more than just another statistic in poverty. Alex never corrected them, especially when they eventually moved to the country of Tao. After two years, it was the last thing on his mind.

In Tao, during one of the performances in Gambitville, Alex met a Houndour by the name of Jesper. After getting to know each other, Jesper mentioned he was going to Tao Village to join the Rescuers guild. Much to the Fighting-type’s surprise, Jesper asked him if he wanted to join him in a team. Alex declined, saying that despite his species, he was not a fighter. A bit disappointed, Jesper took the answer and left. However, the thought plagued Alex all the next day, and just as Jesper was about to leave town, Alex stopped him, saying that the chance to meet so many Pokémon besides his caravan family, the chance to both live in one place yet travel, was much too tempting to throw away. The Houndour had grinned. Bidding a sad farewell to his caravan family, Alex took off with his friend.

Alex is capable of taking care of himself after living on the road for over two years. He is very street smart and can pinpoint a Pokémon’s trustworthiness and character by sight alone almost every time. He is extremely social, sometimes a bit too social, and Pokémon have to basically draw out boundaries so he can see they need personal space. Alex speaks his mind. When there is authority present, he knows when to hold his tongue and how to shape his words to sound much more educated; it seems some of his private schooling and those speeches from his parents stuck.

When performing his magic, Alex loves to sprinkle his speech with riddles, undertones of mystery, and vocabulary some like to accuse as being purple prose. He never claims his magic is real; they are merely carefully-crafted illusions from his attacks. On more than one occasion, he has to assure his viewers that neither he nor his parents were Dark, Ghost, or Psychic-type Pokémon. (It’s pretty awkward when he has to avoid mentioning that his parents came from a long-line of purebred Mienshao because then they might make a connection to his province.)

When it comes to being part of Team Smoke and Mirrors, he’s not the best at fighting on the offensive side. His attack executions are tailored for illusions and escapes. When in battles, Alex is the one that distracts the enemy while Jesper deals out the hits. Jesper normally takes Alex outside their base or in the Dojo to work on his offense.

Jesper: Alex sees him as an older brother, a different kind of mentor that he realizes he always looked for in his father. He admires Jesper’s determination, dedication, and the firm hold he has on his ideals. However, he is constantly frustrated by his partner’s bias against Rogues and stubbornness to look past faults in Pokémon.

_____

- Why Team Smoke and Mirrors? Not only does Alex specialize in magic, but Jesper has Smog while Alex has Reflect.

- Jesper is the Swedish form of "Jasper". Since Finland and Sweden are rivals we have Mikko (from Team Silver Lily) and Jesper.

Woot, new app! (Even if it sounds like these are temporary pictures.) I'll miss Alex's bowing pic, but this one with the ball trick is cute too... and I guess I *can* still look at his old pic whenever I so desire. Both is good. xD I like how fluffy Alex's arms are now too.

It looks like you've improved a lot with Jesper too; I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out when you aren't doing just "quick pictures", haha

Temporary for a big while, though. And yes, the old one will be there, forever and ever.

I like the arm fluff, too. :3 In my headcannon, not all Mienfoo are like that, just the ones who rather be doing magic tricks than keeping up with their grooming.

Thanks! Canine anatomy seems so complicated to me, but after studying several tutorials and my own dogs, I'm finally getting it. xD
