Hives, like any other eusocial structure, are not immortal. When a Hive is healthy and large enough, the swarm begins to produce new queens. A portion of the swarm often accompanies her to build a new hive. Normally, she takes a substantial portion with her. It is very rare that she would bring only one valuable nectar-producing drone... and if she did, she would soon send workers far and wide to acquire new subjects.

When removed from the Hive for long periods, their individuality recovers fully. Some are nostalgic for their time in its rubbery halls; waxing poetic of the luxurious, shiny encasements and the decadent torments visited upon begging, groaning men and women.

Others are not so hidebound, hoping to go about their lives free of the constant sybaritic affections of mewling captives and shining playmates.

And yet, even when removed, there are still others who regress back into the Hive. They keep their gear and start anew. They justify what they do by saying it's merely play - that their love of masks and latex and restriction are sexual fetishes. Yet, when they begin to hypnotize their captives and construct elaborate structures, they hardly realize that they are creating a new hive until it is too late.

In this piece, Aurora is undergoing some forced recruitment to the Hive. Why? Well, she's a reality-hopping CEO, and another CEO is currently busy engaging in some shady manipulation of the Hive.
