Well, the idea was in my head after I saw Sherlock Holmes and then I was rocking out to my Newsies soundtrack and inspiration hit!
Can't you just see him doing butterfly twists and flips down the streets of NYC with Cowboy and the other newsies?

SHERLOCK HOOOOOOOOOOLMES!!!
MUCH love to that film..
You know?? I was TOTALLY gonna tell you at first "Oh Ray Park as Wiggins, how nice!!!" (you know, Wiggins was the leader of the Baker Street irregulars, the kids who would help Sherlock Holmes in the books) but then I thought.. ok don't say something as wtf as that, maybe that's not what she meant to do.
What's the Newsies soundtrack? Ok ok hahha, what's the *Newsies*?

Wiggins! That totally wouldn't have been wtf...you could have said something totally random like 'Martian peanut butter and jelly' and I would have been like "I totally get that." And you prolly think I'm really weird now...
Anyway, def much love to Sherlock Holmes...and you don't know about the Newsies? It was a Disney musical from 1992 starring Christian Bale (yeah, effing Batman).
Here's the first song/dance number: [link]

I'm glad I could introduce you to it! The other songs are just as awesome as the first.
And, I'm thinking that 'Martian peanut butter and jelly' should be a codeword...I'm not sure what for, but it'll be awesome!

I'm glad you introduced me too!!! I mean.. Alan Menken?? The composer of The Little Mermaid and the Hunchback of Notre Dame???
All the songs are awesome??? Can't wait to download the whole thing!!! Thanks!!!
Martian peanut butter and jelly.... Hmmmm...... Arrrgh I don't even know if you're a Samgar shipper, but I could give you an idea or two on what it could be used for....
Ok *pulls mind out of the gutter* maybe it could even be a rock band name.

All the songs are awesome! Especially when you run/dance around your house singing them at the top of your lungs until your mum tells you to can it or you trip over something...
Not really a Samgar shipper... more like an Edgar/me
but the band name could totally work!

HAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA so you did that?? At home?? Hhahaha poor mom!
Gosh, I LOVE singing to musical songs..
Edgar/you???? Awwwwwwww!!! Hey, I know you are one of the prize givers in the contest, but you SHOULD be able to take part! You will, won't you?? I can give out prizes without taking part myself, no worries. I'm gonna clarify that in the next blog edit if I have to.

Cool, great!!! I see that said in the rules that we can take part with only one entry, right? I guess it's less confusing that way.

I haven't finished my entry yet, I'm hoping to work/finish it tomorrow or Monday. I'm totally cool with the prize, and I'll leave a comment on the blog really quick.

Cool cool, take your time!
Another question.. Should we have the votes public or private?
Public = each group member (or whoever wants really) posts a comment on the "contest entries" folder saying "I vote for...."
Downside? People's feelings might get hurt if they don't get single vote or if a friend votes for someone else.
Private = sending a note to the group with your favourite entry.
Downside? Some people (those who won't get voted I guess) *might* doubt the results.
Dunno what to doooooooooo *sigh*

That is a pretty box of pickles...well, what you could do is create a poll on the blog with all the choices, that would keep voting private, but then no one would doubt the results.

ElenaTria In reply to PhantomKat813 [2010-02-15 22:53:48 +0000 UTC]
That's what I thought too, a poll would be SUPER handy and anonymous, but unfortunately we're not a super group so I can't add that widget. Argh.
Maybe I'll stick to the notes and just ask members to.. trust me and that's it.
(or is there another way to have a poll in some other site outside dA....)

PhantomKat813 In reply to ElenaTria [2010-02-15 22:56:28 +0000 UTC]
You could do a make-it-yourself poll and have people send in votes privately, but have one post on the gallery detailing the totals as the votes come in.

ElenaTria In reply to PhantomKat813 [2010-02-16 11:43:29 +0000 UTC]
Hmmmm a make-it-yourself poll doesn't sound bad at all!
Ok then, I'll tell members to send notes to the group. They just have to trust me. Plus there may be entries that get no votes at all or just TWO others that get all the votes. So how are we supposed to give FOUR prizes? My idea was that people should send notes naming all four winners, that is "Prize 1 [insert name and deviation] Prize 2, Prize 3..." etc etc. And just in case a note doesn't get sent, voters will have to post a comment ("voted!") on the "contest entries" folder, so I know how many notes I should be getting. You think it's a good idea to have people say publicly that they voted? They won't say who they voted for..

PhantomKat813 In reply to ElenaTria [2010-02-16 21:32:02 +0000 UTC]
That sounds good. I do think that people should give their top three or four choices, numbered accordingly and then maybe keep track of the #1 choice publicly, but have the others in case of a tie or no votes, or whatever.
Having people say that they voted should be good, I don't think that anyone will hound people to learn who they voted for.

I have two notes already, haven't opened them yet. But only two, whyyyyy... I *think* it will work since I told people to vote for three people (I just hope that contestants won't have to vote for themselves... We got four entries).
Anyways, do vote hahhaha!!!

lol this is much more important than math. The shading and lines are fantastic, but the proportion is off--the face is a good likeness but much too large for the body. I'd also put more bulk on the shoulders and make him slouch less. But this looks much better than I could do, especially the hat and hair, very *ElenaTria . ^_^

PhantomKat813 In reply to Nemonus [2010-02-05 13:26:43 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Yeah, I suppose the head is a bit big...I usually manage to screw up proportions somehow .
The slouch though, I was originally going to have him leaning up against something, but then my prof said something to the effect of "...find the fourth derivation of f(x) and then you have the error. Now, to get Δxi..." and I figured I should probably pay attention. So, just imagine there's a wall or a lamppost or a car or something of that nature there...maybe I'll draw it in later...
