If I get a girlfriend and she tells me that about my brown eyes. I would say you are just making an excuse to break up with me then say if you don't want to tell me the real reason then fine. Then I will get into my vehicle then drive away avoiding eye contact. And I've seen the second one. If she begs me to take her back and offers to do or change anything to get me back. She would have to come here when I'm in a good mood to even consider taking her back.

But it really isn't! The whole "swtich of the eyes" argument and how fans think it's the reason for Sonic's so called "dark age" is the stupidest argument to come from the fans I think. Cosmetics don't matter in gameplay at all!

In fact, I think there was a time when fans were boycotting Sonic 4 becuase they wanted him to have his black eyes for the game. So they made a petition for SEGA. SEGA of course said "fuck off" and that Classic Sonic won't return for future games, with Generations being an exception.
And that all came form a few seconds of gameplay...from the beta version...at it's first unvailing...
