It took about thirty hours, but it's finally finished! Huzzah! Obviously, I'm a sucker for detail, and it's really slowing me down. This is the sort of thing that can be achieved by someone with minimal artistic flare, but who is incredibly anal retentive and has gratuitous amounts of spare time. I think it's high time I learned how to speed paint. Despite all this, I'm happy with the end result, so I can finally get back to my uni work!Related content

Really for a piece of this size and detail, 30 hours is quite a steal for time. As if this were acrylic or oil it would've taken a lot longer on canvas.
Though, personally, I wouldn't worry about the time. You've added so many little details, so much realism and depth- it actually feels like it's got a warmth of human inhabitance or that it's a place that people converge upon. The room looks natural, the placement of candles and torches and people looks natural and the placement of objects is very well projected.
Personally I think it's better to work for hours and hours to include these kind of details you can appreciate, than to speed painting something that has the correct shape and form and colours...but a lot less in terms of actual composition.
Some of the level of detail is amazing, especially with the trees and the animals. In that respect, there is little criticism I could give to the piece- if any. I've studied it for about 10 minutes now and have yet to find something noticeably out of place.

Reminds me of Doctor Who, for some reason. "Forest of the Dead" and "Silence in the Library" are the episodes I'm thinking of. This is a fantastic painting, imaginative and colorful. Well done.
