Description
One of these spiders (Steatoda nobilis) crawled out of my paintbrush bag the other day (a male) I took it as a sign that it wanted its portrait done so I duly obliged. Also it was another chance to try my new Indian ink and nib pens!
Its been a very very long time since my last spider sketch ( had a knack for drawing them at school) so it was pleasing to me that I can still draw a fair spider. 
Materials A5 size paper, Indian ink and pen nibs, some digital colours and a tint added with gimp/picasa for atmosphere purposes.

Yes they are scary looking spiders an arachnophobes nightmare for sure. One has created a work of art web in my garage. Its really made itself at home!

Thank you! Well I took some photos of this fine chap and used them. Though I did have an odd cat (not mine) sitting on my lap when I drew the spider later in the garden!

I thought it would be quite hard to draw such a small and quick creature as a spider from life! But drawing with a cat on your lap isn't very easy either, I imagine!

No it was not, it kept pawing at the waggling end of my ink pen as I drew!
