Description I took a photo of a dead tree last year in a field surrounded by no trespassing signs, it had a very interesting shape all twisted, gnarled, and starkly shadowed in sunlight. I did a quick sketch of it in biro pen but felt I wasn't doing it justice so decided to have a proper attempt.
Its a very popular tree with crows and magpies and there were a good few perched here and there on the branches in my photo.
This started out fairly simply but got quite awkward trying to achieve its complexity (gave it my best shot) and its a large drawing for me on tinted blue pastel paper 72 x 42 cm.

Drawn using willow charcoal and white chalk.

That is a large drawing!

An impressive show of perspective and proportion.
Looks almost iconic in it's shape and impact.

I went past this tree for years and years not knowing it was there, its deep in a field, one day I discovered it and just loved its gnarly shape, finally got round to drawing it. Drawing trees is tricky, though I gave it my best shot.

Thank you, this got quite complicated and made my head hurt! The scanning was a nightmare!

Looks great.

Can I do a study of this or the original photo if you posted it here?
I like how the shading makes the tree more three dimensional.
You will get credit.

Sure thing, I don't normally upload many photos, but if I do upload this photo I'll note you.

Yes, especially the dead ones, and the title is quite a popular choice for poems too it seems
