Lovely expression & the way the lighting compliments the backdrop is splendid.
Not a critique, but a tip:
Sometimes with Gimp lens flare you get dots of light where you don't want. (Not saying that's the case here mind you).
1) Export your finished image as a png, then open in Gimp & duplicate layer.
2) Add a new layer, then click merge down so you have 2 identical layers. (You have to do this or Gimp will go all gay).
3) Add the lens flare, then using an eraser tool 'rub out' any bits you don't want. Voila!

Thanks, Bro-ski! the spot of light on her chest looks nice to me, so I left it there intentionally...it matches the highlights on her face and because I had to turn off the bump map on this figure I was doing everything I could to add an organic look to the piece.
However your mini-tutorial is wonderful and helpful, so thank you, my friend.
