a commission for predator381.deviantart.com/ . one of his spartan characters from a story he is doing. the pose was determined by him and he wanted a background based on Ridge line map from Halo Reach. i enjoyed working on this one quite a lot.Related content

Just a quick critique, the style of the background sort of doesn't fit with the character, it seems as if the art styles are different between the two. The character looks a lot more cartoony than the background does, and I think the problem lays in with the lighting especially on her visor. Very good composition though.

it partly is because the back ground was quick and thrown together to resemble a stage from halo reach. Β i did not want to spend too much time on it because he did not pay me for a highly detailed background. so while it remains loose and kind of sketchy the figure is very tight. Β the piece is based around the amount i was paid to complete it to the commissioners satisfaction and within the amount i was paid. i had actually already put more work into it than i had initially planned so some of the elements may not seem as cohesive as could possibly be. Β i threw the background down as quick as possible to get it done and move to the figure. also instead of putting the edges in the image of her up i left the line work on it to save time as well. this adds to the illusion of a more cartoon or animated look to the character. i lowered the opacity on the lines to lessen the effect but they are still visible. her visor probably would be reflecting the light more directly now that i think about it. maybe something i will change in the future.

sure i guess. all Reach spartans wear the same armor. the only thing that defines them is Β their helmets and colors really. Β kimi obviously has a different option on the fore head armor or those shoulder pieces but the rest you could say is the same. aside from color.

well many different spartans can wear the same types of helmets. it is called the air assault helmet. it is not exclusive to kat. in the early stories all the spartans wore the exact same armor and were mostly indistinguishable from each other. Β on a side note she is not really my character so i did not decide her look.

haha good one. but like most actors to get a good performance they want to show faces. it allows a closer connection to the characters. though i understand what you are saying. they are thinking from a story telling perspective not from a true military perspective. Β its similar to the spartan 4 issue. there would not be so many different versions of the armor. the military would commission 2 or 3 versions then pic the best one for the lowest price and run with that one. like in reach. then individuals would personalize their armor to suit their operational needs. Β

believe it or not i do not get a lot of commissions. most people it seems really dont want to pay what the art is worth. i over worked this one a little more than usual because i had time and was enjoying working on it. i know that 50 is actually undervaluing my work but you can really only charge what people are willing to pay if you want to make some money at all. Β i gotta start somewhere lol.
