Description
A tutorial I whipped up centering around my 3 recently submitted portraits. I've always liked drawing portraits, so I thought I'd make a tutorial to help others out with the activity.Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Please excuse any typos. I'm usually good about this sort of thing, but when there's a lot of text, it sometimes slips under my radar.

Yeah it sure did.
I also like looking at animated short films, some of them are crazy awesome, like this one called "The Fly"

That's amazing! You can tell how much work and effort was put in to make that short little film...

The only kind of issue is that one scared the crap out of me... It's so lifelike...

I'd look at what Andrew Loomis has to say about hair.

But I also remember this post by cartoonist John Kricfalusi(ren and stimpy) that seemed quite helpful about structure.

Ok just came up with a question for you: how would you deal with blond eyebrows? (something i'm kinda stuck with at moment)

Hmm, I think I usually just make them dark anyway. Eyebrows are usually darker compared to rest of the hair.
You don't have to make them black or anything, but a few shades darker than the rest of hair usually works.

Cool i'll try that - makes sense - i kinda stupidly had drawn an ink outline of the eyebrows and colored it in but that was not working, thanks for taking the time and answering!

Funny a lot - a whole lot - of artist sort of try to avoid/downplay the nose when drawing girls but you really define it - and it works! Nice!

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Many people just slap the nose on the face like it isn't even a necessary component for the face.

I'll try it as well but it'll be hard i think because it is so hard wired to avoid noses. I remember when i was kid and a friend showed me how to draw "hot chicks": he said just draw two tiny lines for the nostrils and nothing else - i think a lot of people learned it that way. Well time to get all Yoda about it and "unlearn what i have learned"

It's also a biproduct of the manga mentality. I don't want to hate too much on manga, but it has led to breed some laziness in certain aspects of illustration.

I think this is a very good tutorial, especially your notes about the nose as 3 planes and eyes not being round (a probably I especially have).
Thank you very much for creating and posting this!
