I haven’t played Overwatch, nor do I own any of the consoles its available for, but I’ve really enjoyed all of the great character designs and abundances of great fanarts of them I’ve been seeing all over the place. Tracer’s my favorite design, so I thought it’d be fun to draw her up!Follow me on tumblr for process sketches and more!

The character design in that game is really top-notch. It's the first modern Blizzard IP I've ever taken any interest in.

So cute!! I'm the same way with OW, haven't played but can totally appreciate the character designs. I just love how much difference there is between charactefs, and none of them feel like a cookie cutter.
Although I believe Mercy is supposed to be 38, so I wish they had made her look a little older.

So do I. Creating a memorable character is a lot more important. Plus, you get too realistic and it's like uncanny valley... Which still gives a lot of people the heeby jeebies.

Yep, and often times money and resources are pooled into the graphics, and the team forgets to actually make a game. Too many 'games' now are too much like movies, with minimal interactivity and constant interruptions.

For some games that's kind of the premise, like telltale games, which I adore. But I've always liked cutscenes, I just don't think if you're making a FPS or something, that they should be your priority, yknow?

Telltale games are totally different kind of premise, story drives those types of point and click games, and that's totally fine. But even so, the story is playing out through the gameplay, so you actually feel like you as the player are driving the story forward. Meanwhile, you get games like Assassin's Creed, very interesting premise, but the unskippable cutscenes and quicktime events prevent you from playing the adventure game that you were promised, and the story is really just checkpoints rather than something you're driving yourself.
Cutscenes are fine in small doses, but there's a much better way of integrating story through the gameplay, rather than interruptive movies. Take something like Hotline Miami for instance, the incredibly fascinating story is told through very brief dialogue but mostly through the environment and actions of the player.

No, no miscommunication, haha. I agree with you, I just get set off on this specific topic, haha, I get a bit long winded.
But yeah, I don't inherently hate cutscenes, but when they detract from the actual gameplay, you have a problem with priorities.
