Precious. I am going to look into the books. I really wish I knew about them before the movie. At first I thought the girl was a younger version of Sarah from the Labyrinth for some reason! Keep up the amazing art. I love the detailing on his armor.

This has the design appeal of illustrations from the early 20th century, fantasy illustration's Golden Age. Wonderful!

I know a lot of changes were made in the movie compared to the books. I recall in the official art book that they mentioned trying to fit so much into the movie forced them to create alterations, even when working so closely with the author.
Anyway, this has to be one of the prettiest depictions of Pitch with his little girl that I've gotten to see! Very good job and thank you for making a fangirl happy~β₯

There is so much detailing-Pitch looks so happy and his clothing is amazing. His daughter is like the light of his life in the image. I have only seen the movie and want to read the books.

After reading the books and finding out things about who 'Pitch' really is and what he did and sacrificed, I can never really see him as the villain...

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! This so B-E-A-UUUTIFUL!! I'm trying not to cry so hard!!! I just wanna sob though because their story really is SO sad!!! T^T
I just.... I just really LOVE this so much!! I can't get over how beautiful and loving it is....
Oh my goodness, I lurve his armor! The details on it are amazing and so intricate!! The unicorn almost made me laugh but when I realized what they truly stand for I thought it seemed fitting. I love the colors of it too, they're perfect. The locket really did make me sob...
Pitchiner's daughter is such an awesome combination of beautiful and adorable! Her dress is breathtaking and I love the crescent moon on it! She looks like a princess... Is it supposed to symbolize something? Like does she have acquired powers from the moon and that"s why she's holding that moon globe looking thing?
.....I REALLY need to read the books.... I REEEALLY want to read the books!
Just, this is SO beautiful I love it SO much and I really just can't stop saying how beautiful it is!!! Oh I love it so! Instant FAV!!!!

Ohhhh....I can't wait for the next book to come out, I need to know if Pitch gets his goodness back long enough to go into hiding before the evil takes him over again... and your picture of him with his daughter is the saddest thing I ever saw because it's so beautiful. Well done.
(I need to go sob in a corner now.)

You are, you are missing something wonderful. It's called the Guardians of Childhood book series by William Joyce, upon which the film Rise of the Guardians was based. The movie shows how the Guardians are doing in the present day; the books examine their origins in the way back when. Go forth and get the three of them- and, if you're so inclined, the two picture books about the Man in the Moon and the Sandman, also by William Joyce. Wonder, excitement and magic await you!

It...was based off of a book series?
...I am 500% done with dream works. One of the best things the movie had going for it was it was original. Ugh. That aside, I'll have to read these because they sound great! Thank you for telling me, I was so confused!

No no, it's great, because when you get to the books, all the illustrations tie into the film, and for that matter Mr. Joyce helped work on the script. He made it so you can enjoy the film and the books as part of one big story, not spoilerish at all. You're welcome, and have fun!

Oh awesome! That's great! I did really like the movie, escpecially the animation, I was just upset because I thought Dreamworks actually made a good story by themselves.

Also thank you again for telling me about the books! What other books do you like?

Ahh, I see, so "El Dorado" was inspired by a Rudyard Kipling story. But not taken point-for-point from it... I think...Ok, the "gods don't bleed" bit was borrowed, and the part about one con wanting to marry a native girl (though in the old story she didn't fall in love with him). But other than that...
You're welcome, for the discussion and the book recommendation. I like all sorts of books. I'm a Potterhead, and I love the novels of Maggie Stiefvater- she writes such believable love stories, I swear. Albeit with supernatural elements, but boy does she know her folklore. She's got one trilogy about werewolves (I love her take on them) and a pair of books with faeries in them (old-school and a leeetle scary). I always enjoy some Diana Wynne Jones (Howl's Moving Castle and many others), Francesca Lia Block, Edward Gorey, Roald Dahl.
I cannot resist any book of fairy tales- from lots of countries too. Russian tales, Swedish, Danish, Scandinavian, Irish, British...
Oh, 'The Phantom Tollbooth' by Norton Juster, and 'Harriet the Spy' by Louise Fitzhugh... My list is a mile long, I better stop here! XD

Great taste but you said the three magic words.
Diana Wynne Jones is my favorite author ever!
Roald Dahl is awesome, I liked the Harry potter books, but I didnt really like Harry potter himself. I've never heard of the other three but as sure as heck going to look them up!

The Stiefvater books are: The Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy (Shiver, Linger, and Forever respectively); Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception & Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie; The Scorpio Races (a stand-alone novel about murderous water horses from the ocean- it's so cool, the heroine's name is Puck).
Francesca Lia Block writes books about people living, loving and finding magic in California- a lot of them are set in L.A. because that's where she lives. They're a little bit magical realism- you can see how the events would happen right up until, say, someone finds a genie in a lamp. Her most well-known series is the Weetzie Bat books, but I found her through one of her stand-alone novels, 'I Was A Teenage Fairy.'
Edward Gorey- oh my GOODNESS, he's cool. Several decades older than FLB and Stiefvater. He writes these macabre little tales with the coolest illustrations. If you've ever heard someone recite "A is for Amy who fell down the stairs,/B is for Basil assaulted by bears..."
you've heard of his most recognizable work, 'The Gashlycrumb Tinies.' Twenty-six children meet their demises in perfect rhyme.
As for 'The Phantom Tollbooth,' it's this amazing book full of wordplay and cleverness. And 'Harriet the Spy' was my Bible for a few years when I was a kid- I wanted to be just like her.
