That’s so lovely – the glittering moon and the white dress, and the ornaments on his clothes, and everything.

I haven’t even seen the movie yet, but I somehow believe that a movie by Guillermo del Toro can’t be all bad. We’ll see.

Pitch was so misunderstood.
I hated the ending.

Me too. This picture is actually what made me want to see it, and when I did I was expecting them to include the back story. I was so disappointed when they didn't. I still enjoyed the movie, and found Jude Law to be an amazing choice for Pitch, but I thought the movie could have benefited from making him more sympathetic. Just knowing the back story beforehand made me immediately sympathize with Pitch. I felt so sad for him at the end.

I actually don't know the back story, although I've heard there's a book that the movie was modeled after. I'm planning on checking it out after the movie to contrast and compare them; guessing that's where they include Pitch's back story?

The character designs and choices were all amazing, just the ending and plot itself didn't live up to my expectations.

Plus, the ending was too goody-goody, with Pitch basically ending up being a loser (which I did not approve of).

I personally hope there's a sequel that elaborates more on Pitch's back story. Dreamworks would be wise to do so.

Oh I love the books, I literally ate them in less than 3 days! Jet, I have to watch the movie and already know that it will be way different. But hey, William Joyce told us so. Anyway, I'm excited!

The movie was wonderful yet it felt lacking. It makes sense then, if it's from a book. I must get my hands on this!

Such a beautiful interpretation of book Pitch: the look, the design, the attention to details. Such a nice contrast too, with Pitch looking so dark and his daughter so light!
(Movie Pitch is jealous)

The books are written for a young audience in mind, but the author doesn't shy away from putting dark, angsty things.
I am curious to see what he will write next! I'm discovering these books same time as everyone!

I think it may be more of the concepts than per say the movie being released. I always find it interesting when I learn about the darker origins of the fairy tales we grew up with. Also I forgot to mention how much I enjoy Phobs' intricate design of the clothes.

I've heard few things about his backstory, about how he was a general/hero and all while he was human, and he had a locket with her daughters portrait? (which i see you have drawn beautifully) ;A; but what happened to her?

I really hope they make a sequel to this movie, there's so much about each character that hasn't been shown on screen.

(Thank you Tumblr) Hey, did anyone, aside from a small handful, knew this page existed? I found it in The World of William Joyce Scrapbook, published back in 1997. He’s been working on this story for years and look where it has gotten to today. Amazing.

Or if you're a cross of really lucky and really cheap, just look online to download the ebook version.

I heard about the film years ago so when I saw the trailers I squeed. Love Joyce's work and what film companies translate from screen(like Robots and Robinsons).

abeamofsunlight In reply to Ohthehumanityplz [2012-11-25 14:08:10 +0000 UTC]

Indeed!

When I first saw the trailer last year? Earlier this year? for RotG, I wanted to see it.
I'm picky about what I watch. Moreso when it comes to it being animated (whether it's tv or a movie). But this gave me goosebumps like it did with the Guardians of Ga'hoole. Loved that movie, even if I'm not much of an owl enthusiast myself. The movie itself was done beautifully, and the story was great too!
To me, RotG looks like it's along those lines. Really well done and DANG IT I WANNA SEE IT ALREADY! GWAAHH!!
What gets me is that lol though I want to see the movie so badly, I also want to read the books for it (I'm not much of a reader, so that's really saying a lot. -more of a writer, instead of reader- ). But I'm stuck! The books look (at least from what sniffing around I've done online) aren't the super easiest to get a hold of. But I still want!!! [link]

It always scares me a bit when companies try to take a book (or series) and translate it onto the big screen. Most of the time they do a good enough job... but still...
But I bet RotG is gonna be TOTALLY worth it

Unfortunately when I asked for both books that these new films(ROTG and Epic), they didn't have them so I'm depressed.

At first I only wanted to see Epic because one of my favorite actors is in it but now that I've learned it's based after the William Joyce story, I have to see it now.

Loved the film. Thought that it's great that both Guardians and Wreck-It Ralph are both existential childrens movies. We need more of them.

Aww that bites

lol I can't say I blame you one little bit on that.

OMG! I'm jealous of you now! You got to see Guardians too! ~*makes grabby hands*~ And I will.. eventually. Ugh. hate this waiting!!!

And so true. I like the kids movies that don't tend to talk down to the audience like we're a bunch of stupid 3 year olds. Heck, I'm 32 and still LOVE anime and cartoons (though, I'll admit, my tastes run more for the serious story lines and not the goofy, sugar-filled, nonsense crap. ...except for PoyoPoyo. Omg for a 2 minute per episode show, how can it be so cute? )

Sounds like his back story was more interesting then what the movie made it seem like. I was very disapointed in the movies characters, made me sad that the movie had so much potential and they just couldn't follow through with it. Great picture though you make me like Pitch a lot more.

BlueMaroon In reply to amitrixwolf [2012-11-25 03:32:57 +0000 UTC]

Mostly Pitch. I didn't feel like his character had a strong enough personality. And now after reading his back story here I feel like they could have done more with it. I also felt the movies direction was really jumpy, I felt like they should have spent more time on some parts, less on others and just the directing could have been better. Like I said. wasn't terrible, just not what I was expecting.
