Description Definitely a failed render, I didn't expect the dots and lines to be in this flame, just that coral design. Of course, I figured that since no one else is submitting stuff like this, I'll upload it anyway.

Enjoy!

I like it - dots lines and all.

To me, with that title especially, it looks like some galactic astronomer's map that he/she/it had been making notes on...or the writing tool's lines for mapping hadn't been cleared away yet.

Initially, I was thinking this would look like coral because all the other lines and dots weren't supposed to happen. When the final image came out though, I definitely understand where you are coming from, and that space map look is certainly there.

Thanks!

You're welcome! It's very kewl.

Can you always predict what will happen when you "seed" a fractal, or is it always a surprise? And how do you "clean them up" afterwards, does it then just become a regular graphics file?

For random fractals and those made with scripts, they are pretty much random without any control initially. You can tweak it after it is generated and go from there. Likewise, if you make a fractal from the ground up, then yes, you do have full control. If you know what each variation does, then everything is almost known. Of course, there is always the possibility of finding a new combination of variations and the like.

Fascinating! So, it's basically using mathematical formulae as artistic tools...very cool!

Sort of, I mean, that is what it is, but I can assure you that about 90% of Apophysis users don't have the math knowledge to really know what is going on. There are some out there that know the math and usually, the stuff they make is pretty incredible.

I can guess!

My brother (Masters in Math [among others], PhD in Electrical Engineering) brags about math: "In order to understand biology, you have to understand chemistry. In order to understand chemistry, you have to understand physics. In order to understand physics, you have to understand math. So, math underpins the universe."

But then, he's biased...I like big systems, myself.

As someone who used to study Mechanical Engineering, I know exactly what you are talking about.

More into art now?

At least, you know where this stuff is coming from...no wonder your stuff looks great.

not to sound like a dolt (intentionally) but what is it? (my idea is probably completely off)

Physically, it is a fractal made in Apophysis. Aesthetically, well...it's fun to look at, I guess.

great one here.. somewhat reminds me of ~Pasternak 's stuff with the grungy feel. love the grainy texture and the old school spiral
