So pretty. I LOVE pieds.

You know....if your breedings produce pieds, you'd have something that would get you a LOT of trade credit with me for jewelry work.

Ah! A fellow ball python lover! Well my breedings will get pieds one way or another! This coming season I'll be doing a pastel het pied to a full pied, and a full pied to two 66% hets (one mojave, one pewter). So next year chances are a little on the low side, but the year after that I'll be doing my two pieds together and that clutch will be 100%. I'll keep you updated, and of course there will be pics of hatchlings here!

Any chance you might eventually work with pinstripe pieds? I've been wanting to see someone try it. Pastel Axanthic Pinstripe Pieds. Oooh! Or more pandas.

And I adore ball pythons, but I'm waiting for just the right ones. No albinos or normals for me. They take up just enough time and space that I want to be picky and get one (or maybe a pair) that I really LOVE the looks of. Until then, I'll stick with kings, milks, corns and rats, which take smaller tanks (mostly) and much simpler setups.
[mine are all perfectly happy right now with room temps around 72+, and I know I'll need heat and such for pythons. So the python has to be special enough to be worth the trouble.]

I don't have any current plans for a pinstripe, however I *do* have plans for a panda pied if my pewter 66% het pied proves to be het for pied and gives me two cinamon pieds you can bet yer bottom dollar that I'll be trying for panda!

Have you seen a Mojave pied? Also called white gold. If my female mojave 66% het pied proves out I'll have mojave pied next year!

I was under the impression that you needed super pastel het pied to get panda?

Sounds cool on the Mojave pied - can you direct me to a pic of one?

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-24 13:36:46 +0000 UTC]

Nope, a panda is a super cinnamon pied. If you go to kingsnake classified and put in white gold in the search you'll see one

Not according to the guy who made the first one. I've got a link somewhere (I'll try to find it) with him holding it and explaining how he bred it.

There are two ways, super cinnamon, or super *black* pastel.

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-27 21:45:07 +0000 UTC]

Ah. That explains it. I'd only heard of the Super Black Pastel recipe. So someone has produced another, using cinnamon?

Super cinny are almost identical to supper black pastel

I'd wondered how similar the genetics were, but I haven't really delved into BP genetics much yet. We do need more pandas, seriously....

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-28 12:44:59 +0000 UTC]

The odds of hitting a panda pied are so low!

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-28 14:06:17 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I think the real trick is to have enough cash that you can search out the pied recessive Supers from as many lines as you can get your hands on, especially females. Then just breed like crazy. I am sorta wondering what the results of a Panda X Panda breeding would be? To be honest, I don't know enough about the behavior of the genes in question, but it would be neat if you get at least 50% pandas out of a pairing like that.

I figure if I get really patient, in 5 to 10 years pandas will be down under the price of a nice car. More likely, I'll manage to find a nice pied that I like the looks of, maybe a pair, and then go back to acquiring kingsnakes and ratsnakes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-28 15:10:07 +0000 UTC]

A Panda x Panda would give you 100% panda pieds because they would get a copy of each recessive gene from each parent. When you do a black pastel het for pied times a black pastel het for pied you get a 1 in 16 chance of a panda pied in each egg which is why they are so rare (same goes for albino pied).

Here, this will help you with the genetics: [link]

Sweet. Sounds like with the $$ they go for, the best investment strategy would be to breed a panda, and find a way to buy the one that has already been done. If you got lucky on gender, you'd have the cash for any project you wanted to work on pretty soon.

I do not think that snake is for sale... I'm working right now on pastel pied, pewter pied, cinnamon pied, and mojave pied.

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-29 11:57:20 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I don't think so either. Having been sold once, I doubt it would make sense for the current owner to let go of it.

Having just image searched to refresh my memory, if you want to end up with a bunch of commission credit, put me on the list for a pewter, mojave or cinnamon pied, but only if you get ones that have more than just head pattern. For some reason, I really like the 50/50 pied look best. I know a lot of folks like the spider pied because the pattern is just on the head, or they go for the ones with only a couple spots of color, but I like them with about 50/50 color to white. I do wish I could find someone doing pinstripes or pinstripe pieds who wanted to trade. Not being broke would be good too.

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-29 14:01:59 +0000 UTC]

Mojave, and cinnamon pieds have color on their body, pewter have just patter on their head. Keep in mind though that both of those snakes run 4,000 in cash, and 5,000 in trade....

I'm not sure I've seen a pinstripe pied. Do you have a pic?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-29 14:16:23 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. So I'm now wondering what the pewter colored pied was that I found marked pewter pied... It definitely had body markings, but didn't look dark enough to be axanthic.

I've seen a pinstripe pied in person at a show, but I can't seen to find a good photo. Basically pinstripe markings with the usual blurring at the boundary of the white areas. The one I saw was probably on 40% white and looked fantastic.

And I do actually know what price range the Pieds run in. That's why I'm offering trade, because I'm not likely to end up with that kind of cash any time soon. And it still hinges on you producing one I really like. I'm picky about anything I'm spending that much on.

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-29 14:46:46 +0000 UTC]

That's odd, here's pewter pied: [link]
A axanthic pied would be worth around 15,000.

I was mentioning their price cause I was hoping you'd send me a link to some of your higher end stuff.

I won't be producing anything for at least a year, maybe 2-3 years so it's all academic right now.

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-29 18:15:23 +0000 UTC]

Strange. Now I need to go find that pic again and figure out what in the blazes that morph was. I've seen pics of the axanthic pieds, and this was too pale...Maybe axanthic pastel?

My best work is in my gallery, but if you wait until September, I'm about to top my previous work. I'm making a wizard's crown for =skiesofchaos in copper, silver, bronze and gemstones, and the photos will go up after he's got it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-29 22:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Well a pastel of any sort wouldn't have pied white spots. Very straong.

Can't wait to see the crown!

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-31 00:15:00 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, forgot about that. Ghost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-31 00:34:36 +0000 UTC]

Again, it wouldn't have white patches. The only things with white patches are calico, pied, and 'ringers'. You know sometimes ya just never know what's at a show. I had a gy try to sell me a 'hyper' pastel that he 'bought at a show'. Wasn't even a pastel, just a normal. Someone took him for a ride...or else he was just trying to take me for one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-31 02:32:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't mean extra white patches, just the Pied white patches. Not like calico. It looked like a pewter pied with the color not just on the head.

But I have seen some crazy assed listings on kingsnake that were a real hoot if you looked at the pics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Cry In reply to Wyrdhaven [2011-05-31 14:59:16 +0000 UTC]

I was talking about pied patches as well, really pied are the only ones with them. Unless it was a paradox of some white snake. In any case I would have loved to have seen it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wyrdhaven In reply to Phoenix-Cry [2011-05-31 16:53:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I positive that it was pied, but colored on the non-pied bits like a pewter. And it didn't look like a paradox. So I thinking maybe it was just a really pale axanthic pied or something.
