It almost startled Matthew to feel something land in his palm without being able to see it, but he didn't flinch and instead curled his fingers over the object to gauge its size. It wasn't smaller then his palm, but had a bit of weight to it. "You're telling me you carry around a hundred pound bow and you shot me with it without much trouble? You have my respect, Ced."

"Thanks," Cedric replied with a smile, not minding the nickname. "So... you gonna pull that one out, or open your hand again so I can put another on?" he asked, giving Matthew's finger a slight teasing kick.
((Um... the sack should be smaller than his palm. Was that a typo, or a miscommunication between us?))

(ACK! STUPID TYPO!!!! I meant "was"!)
"Oh, sorry! I was just considering how many I should be able to hold at once. Go ahead give me two more." he said, opening his fingers and trying to return the teasing hit by whipping back at him with a finger. It occurred to Matthew that Cedric seemed more relaxed with him when the teen couldn't see him... Or maybe he was just over-thinking it.
He hoped he was wrong.

((Yeah, that's what I figured you meant.))
Cedric nodded, tossing the sack in his arms into Matthew's palm, followed by another. "Okay, there you go," he said. "Man, you make them look dinky..."

When both sacks where in his hand, Matthew closed his fingers over them and withdrew them from the building. He set them on the ground beside the others before reaching back in, this time reaching farther and faster to snag Cedric's leg firmly between two knuckles. "Ha! Gotcha!" he said in teasing triumph, pulling him back towards the doorway slowly enough so he wouldn't fall over. "We've already got five or so of these sacks, so we should just get the water, now."

Cedric had to hop while Matthew was pulling him, and he yelled, "Hey! Would you cut it out?" When he'd been pulled all the way out, he scowled up at Matthew. "The barrels are in there, you know," he said, gesturing back to the open doorway.

"Yeah, okay, okay." the teen chuckled in reply, letting him go again. "I just can't help playing around with you." Matthew nudged the archer back through the door with the back of his hand, still smiling broadly. There was something about playing around with Cedric that just made him feel less out of place.Β

"Well, it feels really weird on this end," Cedric informed him with a sigh, going back for the barrels. Sliding between a five high stack of them and a wall, he braced himself against the wall and knocked them over with his feet, making a loud clatter.
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 04:08:18 +0000 UTC]
Hearing the noise, Matthew ducked down quickly to peer inside, a frown on his face. "You okay in there? Nothing fell on you did it?" he asked, actually sounding a bit worried for the archer. He was about to reach in the building again, but one of the barrels rolled out the door towards him ad he set it right side up near the flour. "Ced?"

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 04:11:50 +0000 UTC]
"Yeah, I'm fine," Cedric assured him, rolling another barrel towards the door. "The easiest way to get them unstacked is to knock the stack over. Thanks for your concern, though." When the barrel was within reach, the redhead ducked back inside before he could be grabbed again, going to fetch another barrel.
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 04:38:54 +0000 UTC]
Matthew watched curiously as Cedric made an effort to avoid his reach again, starting to wonder if maybe he hadn't be over-thinking it at all. Maybe Cedric really did feel better around him when there was a building keeping him out of sight, even if Matthew could still technically reach him. He took the barrel and set it by the other, still wondering about it.
Had he gone too far?
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 04:45:20 +0000 UTC]
Soon enough, all five of the barrels were outside, and Cedric knocked over another stack in the same manner, though not before first calling to Matthew to inform him what he was about to do so that the giant wouldn't worry about him getting hurt.

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 13:32:06 +0000 UTC]
After the forewarned clatter, Matthew reached in again and fished put a few barrels, not bothering Cedric at all. It kept going through his mind that Cedric might still be more afraid of him than the archer showed, or maybe just intimidated. He waited for the red-head to walk out on his own, already gathering the first five barrels together and tearing open and pouring in the sacks of flour without much trouble.
"Hey, Ced... You said you've never seen one of these giants, right? But judging on the stories, do you really think I could be one?"
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 13:50:38 +0000 UTC]
Cedric made a hmming sound, coming out and leaning casually in the doorway. "Well, let's see..." he said thoughtfully. "That would have to depend on which stories I was comparing you to..." He looked up at Matthew, giving him a studious look. "Really big, check. That's in all the stories. Annoyingly grabby, check. Seems pretty strong, check... Doesn't look human, nope. Tried to eat someone... You'd better not!" He shrugged. "Eh, I think I'll believe you that you're a human who's grown a lit lately."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 19:02:07 +0000 UTC]
Matthew chuckled as the list was gone through, only a bit sheepish when he was dubbed 'annoyingly grabby'. He couldn't that he was curious. But when Cedric mentioned eating someone his eyebrows shot up. "They eat people?" he asked, definite surprise in his voice. He shook his head with a frown. "That's just so wrong, on multiple levels. Ugh, gross."
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 21:51:51 +0000 UTC]
"I am so glad you think so," Cedric said, smiling up at him. "Gets rid of that worry, at least." He came the rest of the way out of the building. "Well, I suppose we'd better get that water now. We'll pass the mill again on our way back, so we can leave the barrels of flour here. You sure you can handle all five of these at once?" he asked, tapping one of the large empty barrels on the rim.
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 22:04:31 +0000 UTC]
"That's like asking if I could carry more than one of you, Ced." Matthew chuckled back, a grin on his face. He reached over and grabbed three of the barrels in one hand and two in the other. He tucked the two under his arm and looked to the archer questioningly. "Need a ride? You can try my shoulder this time, if you're not too skittish." he offered smugly with a hint of a challenge
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 22:10:10 +0000 UTC]
Cedric shrugged. "Hey, I was just checking..." he said, but there was a slight smile on his face. Starting to approach Matthew, he shrugged again. "Sure, I guess..." he said, wondering when he'd become so trusting. However, he was not completely trusting. Pulling a knife from his belt, he showed it to the giant, the blade glinting in the sunlight. "Grab me again, though, and I'll stab your hand. In the pressure point, if I can reach it."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 23:10:31 +0000 UTC]
He was grateful when the red-head walked right over to him, already reaching down to pick him up. But he stopped at the sight of the knife and Cedric's threat, though didn't flinch. "Well then how do you expect me to pick you up? Magic? I'm just going to put you on my shoulder, Ced, I won't even do it as fast as before. You can put the knife away." Matthew tried, resuming reaching down for the soldier but much slower, hand moving at a snail's pace towards the back of his uniform to grip it like he had done before.

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 23:14:31 +0000 UTC]
Cedric put the knife away, but he took a step back from Matthew. "Just stop," he ordered, holding up his hands. "I can see that I'm going to have to teach you how to pick a person up... because the last two times, I hated it. I'm sure there's a better way."

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 23:35:58 +0000 UTC]
Matthew frowned further when Cedric stepped back, hand falling limp before the teen shifted to sit, putting the barrels down and leaving his hand palm-down on the ground in front of Cedric. He sighed, staring at the red-head with a mixture of annoyance and disappointment.
"Alright. Fine. Teach me."

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 23:43:47 +0000 UTC]
Cedric nodded, relieved. "Thank you..." he said. "Okay, so you're the first giant I've met, so this is probably going to be awkward for us both... and we may need to use quite a bit of trial and error." He approached Matthew again, looking up at him. "Don't grab me by the back of the shirt, okay? I felt like I was going to fall the last time you did that. But... I guess wrapping a hand around my waist could work... if you went slowly." He lifted his arms so they'd be out of the way, nodding to Matthew.

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-24 23:50:17 +0000 UTC]
The blonde cocked a brow at him, as though asking if he was actually holding his arms up like he was. The archer suddenly reminded the teen of a toddler and he smirked for a second. "Yeah, okay." he said, lifting his hand from the ground and reaching forward, long fingers brushing Cedric's uniform as they curled in around his back. Matthew didn't close his hand right away, just holding it there around the red-head's waist with a few inches between them, watching him for any sort of unease or second thoughts.

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-24 23:55:17 +0000 UTC]
Cedric sucked in a deep breath, steadying his nerves. Slowly, he lowered his hands again, resting them on top of Matthew's larger one. "This just feels so weird..." he said, but he didn't make any protests or tell the giant to let go.
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 00:49:48 +0000 UTC]
A brow slightly cocked at the comment and response, then Matthew started to close his hand around him and lift him from the ground to his left shoulder. "If you take out that knife while you're there, I just might consider adding meat to my meal." the blonde said in warning, mentally questioning the validity of his own threat. He could do it... Would be weird and probably the freakiest thing ever, but he could do it. And he'd act on it if he had to--somehow.
Tucking the barrels under his right arm again, he carefully worked to his feet and stood still a moment, turning his head just a little to check on Cedric. "You gonna be okay there?"

"Are you threatening to... eat me?" Cedric asked, making a gagging sound. "I thought you said you wouldn't do something like that! Besides, why would I hold a knife to youwhile sitting on your shoulder? That would just be stupid..." As Matthew stood up, Cedric jolted a little, grabbing onto the strap of Matthew's tank top for stability. "Yeah, I think I'll be fine... just... just take it slow, alright? I... I'm not used to being this high up... especially not on top of a moving platform..."

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 01:39:50 +0000 UTC]
"Its not like I'm interested in trying, you know, but I will if you give me reason to... Somehow. Just don't make me bleed and I won't try to take your hand off, okay?" Matthew noted the little jolt from Cedric and held very still for him, fighting a chuckle when his tank strap was gripped. "Let me know when I can walk." he teased with a grin.

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 01:43:40 +0000 UTC]
"Don't do anything that deserves me making you bleed," Cedric retorted. He gave a slight sigh, elbowing Matthew in the neck, though not very hard. "You can walk. Just please take it slow. And... try not to knock me off, alright?" Though the soldier's voice sounded mostly calm, there was a nervous undercurrent not far below the surface.

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 01:52:28 +0000 UTC]
"Alright, alright." the teen chuckled at the jab to his neck, ignoring the slight discomfort. He took a step forward, trying to keep his movements smooth though he still jostled the archer some. "Where are we getting the water?"

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 01:56:32 +0000 UTC]
"There's a spring... that way," Cedric said, pointing. "Um... can you see me while I'm up here?" he asked uncertainly, speaking a bit more softly now that he was right next to Matthew's ear. "If not, I can just give you directions like right and left or whatever..."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 02:08:38 +0000 UTC]
"You're right next to me, Ced, and you're not thatΒ small. Yes, I can see you. I can at least see your arm when you point. I have to turn my head a little to see you, though." Green eyes glanced to the pair of legs hanging down from his shoulder, the sight so strange to him. Carrying Cedric like this was like carrying a doll on his shoulder--it was just so weird. "Try to relax a bit. I'm not going to suddenly start sprinting or anything." he said as he headed off in the direction he was pointed.

"I was just checking..." Cedric said softly. "I wasn't sure if you could or not..." He sighed a little. "I'll try," he promised, but his grip on Matthew's shoulder strap didn't loosen in the least. "Is this as weird for you as it is for me?"
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 02:32:12 +0000 UTC]
"Depends on how weird for you it is." Matthew mused, humming a little. It was kind of funny how tight Cedric was holding on to the strap. "It's probably weirder for you, honestly. For me it's just more... surreal? It was definitely freaky when I first picked you up, though. I didn't know what to make of it. That's partly why I kept asking if I could pick you up again; I was trying to figure out how I felt about... Well, that, and... Y'know. It was kinda awesome to be able to pick someone up like that. I mean I've picked a lot of people up off their feet, but never like that."
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 02:43:21 +0000 UTC]
"Yeah... I bet it would be a pretty awesome feeling..." Cedric agrred, looking down at his own hand and trying to imagine holding someone not even knee high in it. He found that he couldn't. It was just too odd a thought. "Probably gives you a feeling of power, huh? Your hand fits all the way around my waist... Easily. It's... it's kinda unnerving, to be honest..."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 02:54:32 +0000 UTC]
Matthew didn't answer his question, feeling a bit uncomfortable admitting that it did. That was part of why he wanted to pick him up so much was because it made him feel powerful. Normally Matthew didn't see himself as a power-seeker, but this... It was just too fantastical. He didn't even have to try, here. His free hand pushed into a pocket as he made an effort to keep it to himself.
"...Would you hate me for it?" he finally asked in a quiet voice.
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 02:59:58 +0000 UTC]
"No," Cedric replied with only a moment's hesitation. "Not when I completely understand. I'd probably want to do it too, if I had the chance. That doesn't mean that I won't mind if you grab me or pick me up without asking or start treating me like some doll, but... no, I wouldn't hate you for enjoying the feeling of holding me."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 03:16:44 +0000 UTC]
Matthew considered his answer carefully, swallowing a little. "I do... I like the feeling. It's crazy empowering. Makes me feel stronger or something, I don't know what. It's just incredible... It's also a bit humbling, which sounds odd coming from me, I think. I have to be more careful. I'm so used to being rough with people that I have to really think about being gentle with you. And I worry I'll hurt you... But I don't want to give it up, either. I can learn, get better. It's what I've been doing all my life; learning and adapting. So why should this be different?"
He paused his talking, thinking back to something with furrowed brows. "Hey, Ced... Earlier, on the way to the camp, I saw you wince when you touched your middle. I didn't hurt you when I first picked you up, did I? I'm sorry if I did, I really didn't want to hurt you."
π: 0 β©: 1
Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 03:20:30 +0000 UTC]
"You did, actually..." Cedric said softly, touching the sore spot gently. "You squeezed a bit too hard... like you threatened you were going to... but it'll heal..."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 03:28:42 +0000 UTC]
Matthew hissed in a slight amount of air, turning his head to see Cedric as best he could. Now he felt horribly guilty, something he was not used to, and he pulled his hand from his pocket to reach up and scoot the archer slightly closer to his neck as though it would help it heal faster. "Sorry, Ced... I really didn't mean to hurt you..." he muttered to him, not pulling his hand away yet. "And I'll never intentionally treat you like a doll or anything like that. Just because we're different sizes and from different places, I still see you as a person... So, for now, I guess we'll just call that injury unintentional payback for shooting my arm. Which stillΒ hurts."

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 03:44:07 +0000 UTC]
The small archer let out a startled squeak when he was suddenly nudged closer to Matthew, but he made no other protest. Rather, he leaned against the giant's neck slightly with a small sigh. "That's nice to hear, Matthew... Thanks," he said. "And... I guess after we're done cooking, I'd better show you where the medic's tent is, so you can get that arrow wound taken care of." There was a moment's silence, and then Cedric asked, "Did you make sure to get the arrow head out, or is it still in there? They come off sometimes."
π: 0 β©: 1
Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 04:12:05 +0000 UTC]
"They what?" he suddenly stopped walking, hand moving to the puncture on his arm. He didn't remember if the arrowhead came out or not, he didn't even think about it at the time! "You're kidding, right? I don't know if I got it out! I just yanked the thing out! Would that have something to do with why it still hurts? Crap! Hold on, I'm picking up speed and getting back to camp; I want to be sure I got it out!"
Matthew cupped his hand against the red-head's side again, making sure he wouldn't fall as he started jogging. Once at the stream he knelt quickly and started filling barrels without pause, tucking them between his arm and middle before standing again. Once more he reached up to put a hand against Ceric, partly making sure he was still atop his shoulder in the process.

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 04:20:45 +0000 UTC]
Cedric frowned. "Look, if you're that worried about it, then set me down and let me check to see if it's still in there," he said, pushing against Matthew's hand. That had been a rough ride, and he'd rather not have a repeat, even if it meant that he'd have to play sugeon to make sure he didn't.

"No way, if it's still in there, I want a doctorΒ to take it out, not the person who put it in there. You might push it further in!" the teen complained, not setting him down as he got to his feet again a bit more smoothly, turning back the way he came towards the mill. His pace was faster than a normal walk, but not as rushed as his prior jog. He was carrying water, after all.

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Amenarae [2014-02-25 04:53:26 +0000 UTC]
"Hey, I have gotten arrowheads out of people before," Cedric protested. "Granted, I've never gotten one out of a giant's arm, but I have taken care of situations lile this." Again, he leaned into Matthew's neck, though this time for greater stability so he wouldn't fall off.

Amenarae In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-02-25 06:01:36 +0000 UTC]
"Still not chancing it." Matthew replied, keeping up his pace. When they were back at the mill, he set down the barrels of water and pulled Cedric from his shoulder to put him down as well. His eyes scanned the items he needed to carry, mentally arranging them in his grasp. He absently brushed over the puncture wound with his fingers, soon realizing and pretending he was reaching up a bit higher to rub at his shoulder.

"I guess I'm walking back, then," Cedric said with a chuckle when he was set down again, though he wasn't complaining. While riding on Matthew's shoulder jad been incredible, it would be nice to have a bit of freedom again.

Once all the barrels had been gathered and tucked against his middle with his arms, he worked on standing up and turning back towards camp, though stopping and remembering that Cedric needed to keep up. "Are you sure you want to walk? I can still get you back up on my shoulder, if you want."

((Okay... HOW did we both have the same thought??))
Cedric approached slowly, uncertainly. "We can try, I guess..." he said, sitting down on the boot, taking care that his feet wouldn't end up under Matthew's when he took a step, and clinging to handfuls of the giant's cargoes to make sure he wouldn't fall off. "R-ready..."
