Description This is a manipulation I did on a picture I took of Stonehenge about a week ago.

I was inspired by a similar poster I've had for my wall for years and I thought I might as well give it a go and see if I could produce similar results.
Turned out quite well in my opinion What do you think

Here's a link to the original image [link]

Update: Removed the '2004' from the title.
Second update: Changed the quote.

wow i like it alot ^^ ... but this image is one of those type of pics you just can look at ... you can't set is as an wallpaper or else ... thats so tragic. but its still nice.

I already tried making a wallpaper from it, but the fact that it's a vertical image made it a bit too challenging. I ended up loosing too much of the sky to create the effect I wanted, so I gave up

Thanks for your comment though. Glad you liked it!

Bautiful work, I love the composition and symmetry, it's very effective. The blue looks lovely too, stunning.

This looks great! I live quite near stonehenge. When I saw this (before reading the description) I was wondering where all that water came from

Really? lol, I must have missed it when I looked through your gallery yesterday. I'll check it out if you have it posted somewhere.

I was wondering when I was going to run into someone who's seen the other poster To be honest, the Mystery one almost looks like a 3D render. The artist must be one hell of a photographer to have come up with results like that!

excellent work.

phoenix2k In reply to aes-unleashed [2004-11-29 14:04:20 +0000 UTC]

Depends how you look at it ... disappointing in the sense that it's been turned into a commercial site and you've got all those roads running besides it? Yeah. But it's still a unique landmark of English history. It's a shame you can't get close to the stones themselves, but I still think it's worth checking the place out

aes-unleashed In reply to phoenix2k [2004-11-29 22:21:53 +0000 UTC]

yeah that too. but the stones themselves weren't as stunning as it's always portrayed to be

I guess the magical aspect of the place is left to our imagination In the end, it is only a pile of rocks. But it can be much more than that, depending on how you approach it.

woo nice compo but i thought stonehenge is like on high ground.. is it near water? and thus the reflection?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phoenix2k In reply to andykun [2004-10-09 02:47:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm not aware of any water sources around there. It's uh .. well in the middle of a big field surrounded by motorways that tend to kill the magic of the place. I just flipped it over to make it look like there was water, because I thought it would bring back a little more of the mysterious side of the place. Most of it has now been transformed into a commercial selling point where you can buy all kinds of junk as souveniers, and that didn't make the place feel any more special either.

Mystery is what most people seek from places like these, although some just come there to have their picture taken in front of a pile of rocks. I just wanted to add another dimension to it, since most of what I was seeing around me was pretty depressing.

woah thats deep XO aww guess they "touristed" this place as well... hmm... come to think of it... anywhere it looks nice or has a cool historical monument is like all commercialized in some way... i.e. easier access thru vehicles.. or vending machines.. or giftshops.. guess theres a bad side to conviency

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phoenix2k In reply to andykun [2004-10-09 03:48:52 +0000 UTC]

Especially when you have a motorway right besides the historical site that has managed to survive for many centuries I heard some news that they're going to build a tunnel under it, so guess it's all changing for the best

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

andykun In reply to phoenix2k [2004-10-09 03:50:54 +0000 UTC]

haha thats true hey hmm.. do u think under the stonehenge perhaps theres more evidence about the structure? so when they dig thru it they might find more stuff about this pool place

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

phoenix2k In reply to andykun [2004-10-09 04:06:55 +0000 UTC]

Well they say there's a hidden pyramid burried under the Great Pyramids of Giza, but the Egyptian government won't let anyone dig there. I wouldn't be surprised if there were other structures around the world that have been hidden beneath the surface. Maybe civilizations have been around for much longer than we think, we simply can't see any trace of them. The fact that the Earth constantly renews itself and the surface, makes these things really hard to find.

There are so many theories about Stonehenge, that I don't really know which ones to believe. I know however that it served an important purpose and that there are other structures in the area, which are perfectly aligned with the location of the stones. Who knows what those people were up to back then, but it sounds pretty advanced to me

If the Alexandrian library in Egypt wouldn't have been burnt down (twice) by the Romans, we'd have a lot more information about our past, which could explain a lot about these old artefacts and sites which we simply can't figure out anymore. Rumour goes that they even had information about Atlantis... how about that?

Too bad we can't undo the ignorance of those who came before us. Libraries aren't made to be burnt down, they're meant as safekeepers of our past. No wonder we feel lost today...

lol really? a hidden pyramid eh? hehe seems like ur into these historical monuments a lot...all these theories etc sounds pretty cool too eh ohoh and about atlantis... i had a dream of it once... and thus my theory atlantis is an underwater area where "sea" ppl lived... like they r trained to breath underwater etc... well thats what i dreamt... like on the surface its for commoners.. but under the water its where the officials and the secret stuff r developed

phoenix2k In reply to andykun [2004-10-09 05:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, you've got a good imagination There are countless number of tales about Atlantis, but if you dig deep enough, you'll start piecing things together. I doubt that they could breathe underwater though

Hehe, I don't wanna spoil the fun - but it was a lot smaller than I thought You have to stay pretty far away from it, otherwise they send the dogs after you.

I just wish I would have had the courage to jump over the rope and get closer to the stones
