The blank look on her face is absolutely captivating. She's just staring, and it's almost frightening, actually. The pose is very natural and welcoming, and the setting around her is great. The only issue I personally have with this image is that she looks too grey, and that maybe the contrast should be heightened a bit. Still, wonderful shot.

Thank you for looking and liking! The fav is cool.
Several comments stress the light/dark/contrast values, which I find interesting. I wonder if that is partly the medium, because of the presentation on a monitor, via the web. The print that I scanned to post this image satisfies most viewers in that regard; in fact no one has offered any comment on that before. (I must confess it is a very old image of mine.) I should perhaps scan the negative and produce some variations with the suggested changes and see if I like them.
Her pose and expression have provoked a wide range of response and interpretation. Predictably, people find the pose interesting. I sort of think of that as the 'hook' if you will. Her face seems to to have more expression in my eyes than for many other viewers, because I knew her personally. I see it as peaceful and reflective. Since it is interpreted many ways, and often evokes a strong reponse I do find the image successful.
Thanks again - I'll come see your work ASAIC (As soon as I can. . .)

A nice simple shot, if it were mine I would burn in the background a little to make it more dramatic

Very nice work. I think you could adjust your highlights some and maybe come in on an upward angle. Otherwise I like the pic great job..

Very unique pose, I skipped by it on first glance and then had to come back and take a good look. Good job by the model and you.

Thank you for looking at my work. I had a wonderful experience working with this model, as she was an artist/photog herself and, so, very collaborative. The pose was undirected- she just went into it when we were working towards a 'meditation' pose.
I am really looking for critique, so any further analysis you might have to offer would be useful. Besides the pose being interesting, does the photo leave you with any particular idea or feeling?
Thanks again.

'Amazed' is what I felt. Question - what was your light source? The layout is very symetrical, yet I only see one shadow on the left side. Just a curiosity question. I like the shot as it is. The color of the background and the model's skin tones are a great match. She like a chameleon blending into the environment. Don't know if this helps, keep up the good work.

As I recall I used two hot-lights, one of which was just a little farther away. My intention was a low lighting ratio that would still render some dimensionality.
Some fellow students suggested the idea that she was an artist in her own studio - that it felt like a self portrait. One aspect of that was the merging of tones you describe. What I first felt was a fault became a positive feature.
All comments are useful and much appreciated.

That's a very strange way she's holding her hands.

I had a look a your gallery, and I am impressed by the range of moods the different poses evoke. You have a classical sense of lighting that is nicely executed. You have some wonderful models. (BTW: I was amused to come across the seagull mixed in with the nudes.)
thanks again

Since you ask - I think the busy background is really distracting.
In terms of feeling, I think her facial expression is really dead - she has a bad case of "model face" where they think fine art = expressionless. Instead she should be going for "serene" or something in particular and not just expressionless. I find just telling a model something along those lines generally helps.
Look at the face in [link] which is a fairly similar pose. Or for that matter [link]
