OH YEAH! That's old. It was one of those " fan made " things I had to have in the old collection.

It seems very fitting for you

Old Collection? So you've updated then, have you gotten rid of anything recently? I noticed you have that Gobo messenger bag and wallet set from Hot Topic in one of the pictures, there's been a posting for that recently up on Ebay...wouldn't happen to be you selling it would it?

Phraggle In reply to BlueTigress94 [2015-09-22 23:39:22 +0000 UTC]

Heh. Old collection as in " the ol' collection " that I still have. Heh heh. I think I may have gotten my 'lil wallets from Claire's actually. I recall having to go into a Claire's store at one point in my life for some reason. I had to wash all the " girl " off me when I left. Of course, one can't exit a Hot Topic without feeling like they're covered in tattoos either.

Do those things sell for much on eBay? I believe I got my wallets & messenger bags for whatever they were sold for.

So it isn't you then...darn it! We could've made a deal or something...

Hey, at least you went in
Most guys don't even get that far, my old boyfriend used to camp out on the bench outside it, while I went in.Β
Ah, Hot Topic...
I remember when Hot Topic used to be cool,Β
Now it's just kind of "meh", Β like Spencer's and FYE's overpriced child.Β
Maybe I've just grown out of it, maybe because I know where to get better stuff now, for often much cheaper.Β
I still stop in though, for nostalgia's sake.

Hmm, the one I'm looking at is only going for about 37.00 dollars, brand new with tags. Not a bad price, espically for a set.

Heh heh. Noooo. I'm not selling the collection. ( I'm still kinda dding to it ).

I probably looked like the proverbial sore thumb when I was in Claire's. I print their name badges though, they should throw a ticker tape parade for me.

I haven't been to Hot Topic in prolly... ya know, it might be about 10 years now. That's when the first new fraggle plushies came out.

$37 ain't too bad for one of those bags. I can't recall what they sold for originally. Maybe half that.

Which is bigger, your Star Wars Collection or your Fraggle Rock Collection?

Hehe, you could've brought your nieces or something, then you could've been like "just here with them, heh, heh"
I think you printed mine too, it's served me well by the way, I put stickers on it and stuff...actually I could probably stand to get a new one....it's seen better days.
....They could throw beads!

Yeah, they've changed quite a bit since then, they sell a lot of Disney and Marvel stuff now, which is cool, but it's the same stuff you can find just about any place else. Of course, I haven't actually been in one since.....early 2014 maybe, haven't been near one in a while.Β

No, especially not the condition. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Phraggle In reply to BlueTigress94 [2015-09-26 01:12:43 +0000 UTC]

Ummm... Star Wars. But my fraggle collection might be more impressive since it's not as common of a thing.

Heh, actually my nieces weren't born back then.

Your Kmart badge? I know we talked about that before. Is it clear with a white backer and a place to slide your name into?

Yeah, I think Hot Topic isn't as hot as it once was.

I'm gonna hafta go peek in on the eBay fraggle stuff.

So you still only have the room for Fraggles, as opposed to the...um...how many Star Wars rooms do you have?

Oh wow!Β

It was, they gave me one on a lanyard now. I think I still have the other someplace.Β
Yeah we did, because I thought you literally printed the names on the badges

It's Luke Warm Topic

Phraggle In reply to BlueTigress94 [2015-09-27 00:22:14 +0000 UTC]

Well... it depends on what one considers " having the room " to mean. I'm really trying to keep my stuff from totally overwhelming my house... I'm not sure if I'm winning that war though.

Coolness. I may have breathed near your badge... I dunno when the last time I printed Kmarts myself was though. It's been a while. I tend to get the more difficult jarbs. There are some places that have us engrave individual names but we rarely print them that way.

Luke Skywalker Warm Topic.

I'm sure there's a way to do it without having to get rid of it, maybe circulate the collection from season to season?

That explains the smell
Sorry, I couldn't help myself...I'm kind of terrible

They do sell Star Wars stuff there

Oh I wanna keep the stuff. I dusted off some of my Clone Wars junk cuz I've been watching the DVDs. It'sa good show.

I stink up all the badges I print.

I've bought some there . They closed my Kmart as I believe I told you.

....I should watch that, I should also watch Steven Universe, but I'm watching He-Man...priorities.

You did say that, but I happened to see some job openings for a Kmart in Columbus about a month or two a ago. Is there more than one?Β

There may still be a Kmart or two around here but, mine got closed, demolished and turned into apartments.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaralWayne In reply to Phraggle [2010-10-24 23:58:55 +0000 UTC]

No, though it would have been a blast. But I was neither a pupiteer nor a musician, so about all I might have applied for a job to do was plug in cables, move props, etc.

I watched the show, though, on the CBC, and liked it plenty. Now I own the DVD sets and watch it again, all the time.

In retropect, I may have just missed whatever toys there were. In the late 80s I wasn't going into toystores much -- Toys R Us had yet to come to Toronto, I think. Most department stores just had a pathetically small department in one corner, or on the third floor. But there may have been plush dolls and colouring books that I didn't notice. But actual TOYS -- playset with figures, that sort of thing -- I don't think they existed here.

I believe the CBC no longer has the studio where Fraggle Rock was shot. And the sets were all lost in a fire, I read.

Phraggle In reply to TaralWayne [2010-10-25 13:52:42 +0000 UTC]

The DVDs are wonderful things. For me, I didn't get to see the show until the late 80s when my family got cable. So, I got to see the final season when it first aired on HBO. At the time, I didn't know I was watching the last season until the last episode aired. I kinda fell in love with the show and even then fraggle stuff wasn't too easy to find in stores. I did get all the McDonald Happy Meal toys when they were originally out though. Most of my collection came from dealers and then, the bulk came from eBay.

There were about 3 different kinds of plush fraggles released in the 80s. I think they mostly wound up in the close-out isle. I got a set of the Hasbro plushie ones back then ( except for Boober I have him now but he's pretty rare ). I got most of the PVC figures back then to. The rest of my collection came later on in life. Thanks to Ebay & the internet mostly. In recent years there have been 3 more series of plush fraggles released. It took them a while to do Mokey for some reason.

I never heard about the sets being burned. Although, a few years ago, there was a piece of the set being sold on eBay. It was mounted on a base and I think originally was given to the cast & crew when the series ended.

TaralWayne In reply to Phraggle [2010-10-25 21:50:59 +0000 UTC]

I was amazed how long it took to get Fraggle Rock onto DVD. There were some early video tapes, but only two episodes per casette, as was usual in those days. You could only get about 8 episodes altogether.

Then they finally relealsed the first season on DVD. Then the second. And after a wait, the third. But the fourth never seemed to materialize. I waited two or three years and went to the internet to find out why. Apparenlty, the producers skipped season four, and produced a complete 4 season package! The idea seemed to be "Bought the first three seasons? But them over again to get the last!" I was not amused.

It seems that so many people weren't amused that the producer finally brought season four out on its lonesome.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Phraggle In reply to TaralWayne [2010-10-25 23:03:38 +0000 UTC]

It took a while and the 4th season was up in the air for a spell. The fans were whining on & on about that. ( I kinda try to distance myself from Fraggle fans. Some of them don't see the " magic " ). I knew the 4th season would come out but nobody would listen to me so I kept quiet. I have a couple copies of each season and then all the stuff I taped from back on TV. The collector in me says that I hafta buy everything fragglish ( I've let up on that though cuz there's actually quite a bit of fraggle stuff when you get it all into one room ).

A different distributor ( Lion's Gate? ) did the 4th season and then re-released the first 3 separately as well as another complete set.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaralWayne In reply to Phraggle [2010-10-26 22:23:03 +0000 UTC]

One complete set of each season is enough for me.

One of the most "magic" things I saw was a tape of the wrap party, where the Fraggles performed at the front of the room. The weird thing about it was that at the end the pupiteers tood up and walking into the audience, still performing -- yet the Fraggles never stopped seeming like real people.

I don't know whether to dread the coming Fraggle Rock movie or not. Spielberg has a way of spoiling some things, by inserting his own obsessions -- like in that horrible Peter Pan with the Hispanic kid and the fat kid from Our Gang and the food fight. Ugh.

Also, some of the original performers are apparently too old and not well, and can't play their parts.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Phraggle In reply to TaralWayne [2010-10-26 23:23:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I'm not bouncing off the walls about the movie. So far, it's something that takes place outside of the continuity and it's said to have guest stars. Fortunately ( for me anyway ), the movie is on hiatus still so the script make be re-written.

The wrap party was very neat to see. There's another part to it that I can't remember if it was included in the DVD. It was a little video abut the fraggles searching for jobs while thanking the cast & crew at the same time. I know I have a bootleg copy. I don't think that was officially released to the public though.

I think Red, Wembley & Boober would probably have their original performers. Dunno about the others.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaralWayne In reply to Phraggle [2010-10-27 23:45:12 +0000 UTC]

Obviously we don't have Jim Henson to be Cantril.

I could do without guest stars, to be honest. That's more a Muppet Show thing, and can get self-indullgent very fast. They will need actors, of course, but if one of them is Tom Hanks, I want him to play a character in the script, not appear as Tom Hanks.

From what I understand, the script called for the Fraggles to leave the Rock and explore "Outer Space." This might have been a good way to end the film, but frankly, I know what the friggin' real world looks like and don't need to see a lot of it in the movie about Fraggles. I'd rather see unexplored parts of the Rock or of the Gorg's world!

This is why I usually don't like it when Hollywood puts its grubby mitts on a property like Fraggle Rock. They producer always things that what Asterix or Sherlock always needed was a talking baby or a food-fight or a highschool rap contest or some other stupid thing that the producer likes, and that spoils the authentic appeal of the property.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Phraggle In reply to TaralWayne [2010-10-28 00:20:07 +0000 UTC]

Cantus.

Richard Hunt hasn't been physical for about the same amount of time as Jim as well, so no Junior Gorg either. I'm not sure how well the story wold fare with Jerry Juhl writing it either. He'd probably be all for it though.

Yeah, I kinda don't think the celebrities deserve to be in the movie simply because they're celebrities. Most don't know what fraggles are anyway... which is somewhat true of society in general.

Truthfully, the series ended on such a high and enlightened note that anything less than that may fall flat. The conflicts between the 4 species in the show were ended or dramatically changed and so those writing the movie script would have to find a way to go from there. I just don't think that there are many people in the world yet who are ready for the stories that would grow from the last episodes.... and I also dunno that there are many writers out there that are ready to pull such a thing off. I'm sure it's possible but it may be a while. I guess, even though I'd love to see a fraggle movie, that it's just not really necessary. From what I read on the Muppet forums, it seems that the concepts discovered in the last episode just bounced right off most of the fans. But, I can't state that with any certainty because I can't read minds very well. Just kinda seems that way.

I dunno if Hollywood will be able to do much with Fraggle Rock. It's kinda why I think the film is taking so long. I view that as a good thing though. That way, there's more time for something good to evolve.... and maybe somehow I can be involved too. Although, I'd really want to have a say in the story. heh heh.

There's an obvious solution to the whole problem of a Fraggle Rock movie -- hire someone for the initial treatment and guidance of subsequent scripts who understands the show. Someone like me, of course...

Well, Cory Edwards--writer and director--IS a Fraggle fan. Ditto for executive producer, Ahmed Zappa. It is the Weinsteins, the movie's distribution company, who want the show "edgy", when the Fraggles are really the opposite of "edgy" (for as we've seen, "edgy" in Hollywood talk means pop culture references, fart jokes, sexual innuendo, violence, and other grossly inappropriate material that does NOT fit the Fraggle model).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Phraggle In reply to TherealRNO [2011-01-16 23:59:48 +0000 UTC]

I know. I know. I don't care a whole lot for the premise though because it strays outside of the show's continuity. I'm not saying it would be bad or anything. It's that it's gonna do what happened with the Ninja Turtles and have several million different continuities. Unless they can get a story that continues where the show left off or can happen in between episodes without contradicting things, I'm just kinda " eh " about the whole thing. When " The Man ", wants " edgy ", it usually means they don't know what they're talking about.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TherealRNO In reply to Phraggle [2011-01-17 01:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Right. Even Cory is wary about making the Fraggles "edgy". I mean, even the classic Muppets kept their violence and sexual jokes to a minimum. XD
