Description Yup! More fraggles. This time I decided to do an " illustration " from a particular episode of TV's Jim Henson's " Fraggle Rock ". This would be, according to my Google search, from episode 17, " Marooned " which originally aired on HBO on May 2nd, 1983! Can ya believe it? " Return of the Jedi " hadn't even hit theaters!!!!!

" Marooned " is probably the first episode of " Fraggle Rock " to really hit a nerve as far as the " this isn't just another cookie-cutter kids show " jive is concerned. Boober and Red faced the reality of dying in this one. Those who have seen this one know how much of a beautiful tear-jerker this episode is. I get choked up every time Boober tells his little story about the soap bubble.

ANYway, uhhh....... I dunno what I was saying. Boober & Red have been trapped in a cave-in and can only rely on their friends to save them. Which, of course, they do.

11/5/12 Rescanned.

Awww, this is beautiful ;w; I love the details on the cavern and how you portrayed Red, at least she's in good company with Boober <3
And I gotta agree with you, I did watch Fraggle Rock as a kid since my cousin gave me VHSes of the episodes, and this particular episode always got me teary-eyed. Jim Henson really was a genius when it comes to programming for children ;^;

Gobo: "Focus on the positives, everyone!"

Fraggles: "ROCK! ROCK! ROCK! HEEEEEAVE!"

*CRUNCH*

(Everyone gasps in horror)

Gobo: "No.... No!! No, they're crushed! RED! BOOBER!! NOOOOO!!!"

Mokey: *eyes wide, in shock*

Gobo: "This... this is my fault. If I had gotten here sooner... Red..... I never got to tell her how I felt... Oh, Red..."

(Mokey stammers incoherently for a moment, then faints)

Felix the Fearless: "Oh well. Guess our best wasn't good enough! Let's get some lunch everyone!"

Gobo: "You son of a BITCH! I'LL KILL YOU!"

Wembley: "I WANNA KILL HIM TOO!! AAAAAAAGH!!!"

*bloody fisticuffs*

(real world, watching this horrible, bastardized version)

Me: (trembling) ... I don't like this new Director's Cut...

But seriously, very beautiful piece here. You really did capture the lovely moment. One thing I really loved about this show was the fact that it didn't sugarcoat absolutely everything. It was an optimistic show. But it wasn't afraid to include some strife and tragedy now and then. And this is a good thing, because without misfortune and sadness, hope and joy would be meaningless. This show could never have been so powerful if it had done otherwise. This episode was a truly sobering experience, and it really gets across the message about how precious and fragile life can be.

Sorry for subjecting you to my twisted sense of humor.

I dunno about other 80s shows but Fraggle Rock was good at it. Everyone who worked on the show was in their zones. That's why it was so good.

You could get them on DVD.

Oh boy! I love this pic my friend!! <3 I really love it! It's truly amazing how wonderful! how you captured ALL warmth of this episode!! mgsocutelpz: The wonder, the the....the magic of this episode! As someone said it up there in the comments. It just melts my soul a lot to see this pic right after seeing the episode! <3 I love a lot how well you excecuted the scene here, the scenery of the cavern and the rocks are so realistic! And the characters are as always looking very proportionated and well done, the poses are so cozy and very natural, the way they're sitting looks very natural and so are shapes of the bodies and how the tails are resting in the rocks.
The poses and expressions and red with a little tear and boober comforting her just makes my heart melt! *sigh* Also I always love how you use the colors to paint, specially the fact you care about all the little details that makes a drawing to be awesome and feel real, like a good shading and the poses, and in particular in this pic, little details like those little glitters in the rocks like if it was water falling down a bit, and the little sparkle in Red's tear.

You know, I felt inspired to coment here because I just watched Marooned! And oh my dear god!! It was so truly beautiful! I truly loved that episode with all my soul! <3 It was one of the most amazing, well-thought, warm and moving episodes of ANY show of any kind I've ever seen! And now I know why you said it's such beautiful tear-jerker, because IT IS! When I watched it I cried a lot cos I was so moved! So full of a lot of feelings I just couldn't explain....That episode touched me from the bottom of my heart! It melted my heart to the core.....And I was so amazed because I haven't seen any show that can explain the the reality of dying so well, with SO MUCH dignity and FEELING like they did in Fraggle rock!!! Indeed I haven't seen any show (for kids or not) that can explain death in a good way, in a not creepy way, because usually people fear death so much and they became it a taboo, so they hide it as much as it's possible, specially in kid's shows. And the very few times when they show death they they represent it in a nasty and horrible way! In a creepy way....that's why I was so truly amazed when I saw in this episode they treated subjects I've neve seen treated in a good way in any other kids shows or movies ; they treated death and being an inmient danger with faith, hope and dignity!! With so much feeling!! <3 And in a natural way! And it was so beautiful the way the episode explains that even so when we are in danger and we know we possibly might die, if we have true friends we will never be alone and helpless, because we can count of them! even in a situation in wich it seems there's no solution! Also this episode explains that if we feel we're gonna die, we gotta focus on the positive and good times we've spend in company of the ones we love and who love us! And that if you have lived your life with enthusiasm and love, you don't have to fear to die....and you know, that's true! And also it's true that's what life it's about, that's what it's all about! About good and beautiful times....that's what I realized when Boober said "At least we've spend good times".
Also I was so amazed to see characters facing death in a kids show! To see them, and HOW they did it, because I've never seen anyone face death before with such
courage (in tv or in real life) and specially I admired Boober a lot cos he face the inminent death and also comforted red and made her feel better! Even if he's afraid most of the time! So that was so brave! Also I could see the characters from another perspective....I could see a side of them I've never saw it before! I could see Boober facing his fears to help his friend! I couls see him being brave and powerful!
I was amazed to see how he put aside his fear to make her better! Also he was so sweet caring at those moments!....And his voice sonded SO cute....
I saw another side of Red too! The first episode I saw made me think that Red was always trying to be though and not afraid, and that she was even a bit boastful or
"not sensitive"...But in this episode I saw a lot of heart in her!! <3 I saw her being very warm, compassionate and sincere! It was just too cute her voice when she said "I don't wanna die here" and in all the moments they were in the cave, specially when talk with boober about how it would feel to die....And I loved when Boober told her that little kind of methaphore of life with that bubble story....And the frienship song!!! It was so full of feeling and it was so lively that when I listened to it I felt an incredbly beautiful and warm feeling of glee, peace and hope inside!...I also was very happy to see Gobo being a great leader! I admired him too due his idea to move the rocks! And I loved how he and the others keep the hope to find Red and boober alive!...and,I think the other reason why I cried....it was because I never had friends like them...I never had been lucky to find true friends that can really love and care about me, so I think I felt sentimental cos when I die...nobody even will notice it...And I'll die alone.....but I think I'll be happy because at least I tried to live my life the best I can...and to find the bright side of everything....
Oh well....sorry for rambling on your pic but I'm so happy to see this episode and you're the only one person I know who likes the show! So I wanted to talk about the
episode with you mate ^^

Wow. You leave the best comments. I'm flattered. If you think this episode is amazing, wait until you get to the 4th season. The last episode is one of the absolute best of the series. If a show ever ended on a high note leaving the viewer wanting more, Fraggle Rock does it perfectly. It's hard to watch a lot of the episodes and keep your eyes dry that's for sure. Don't rush to watch the last episode though, I'd wait until I'd seen most of the others, it'll be even more rewarding.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your thoughts about the fraggles.

Aughghghggg..... that's awesome. I love the little shineys here and there too, that really adds to it. : D

This episode, I swear. When my mom had recorded every episode on VHS for me, and I'd just watch through 'em in their ENTIRITY while we were on, like, long car rides (we had one of those old conversion vans with the TV in it).... I guess the episodes were taped out of order, because this was the last one I remember watching, and it gets CUT OFF HALF WAY THROUGH. DX
SO I NEVER KNEW WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM.

But it's okay 'cause I got 'em on DVD when they came out. STILL, I was a miserable child because of it.

Anyway, the illustration is fantastic! : D
