Description
Yup! More fraggles. This time I decided to do an " illustration " from a particular episode of TV's Jim Henson's " Fraggle Rock ". This would be, according to my Google search, from episode 17, " Marooned " which originally aired on HBO on May 2nd, 1983! Can ya believe it? " Return of the Jedi " hadn't even hit theaters!!!!!" Marooned " is probably the first episode of " Fraggle Rock " to really hit a nerve as far as the " this isn't just another cookie-cutter kids show " jive is concerned. Boober and Red faced the reality of dying in this one. Those who have seen this one know how much of a beautiful tear-jerker this episode is. I get choked up every time Boober tells his little story about the soap bubble.
ANYway, uhhh....... I dunno what I was saying. Boober & Red have been trapped in a cave-in and can only rely on their friends to save them. Which, of course, they do.
11/5/12 Rescanned.

Awww I remember this episode..I cried. Hah, saw it recently and did too. I think it was the most "deep" and darkest episode of Fraggle rock, and I'm sitting here thinking " this is for kids!? " y'know? But it really hit home and I think that Boober and Red's relationship was stronger afterwards. I love this picture. It's so well done and captures the emotion of the moment.

Well, it's more of a " family " show than just a " kids " show. Kids shows are those " cookie-cutter " cartoons and Barney and stuff like that. Fraggle Rock had purpose.
Towards the end of the series, the show got even deeper. It's the best show ever.
Thanks again!

The point that seemed to be of no return for that episode came when the two sang the Friendship Song: [link]

Oh my good golly gosh...
I just bought the first season on DVD (yeah, I know, about time) and have gotten my way through three of the disks so far. (They help keep me up when I'm on duty!... Except I wasn't on duty tonight, I just wanted to watch more Fraggles.) And this episode nearly made me cry. And I NEVER cry.
And now I search for Fraggle art (for I fear I'm quickly becoming obsessed) and I see this, which is almost more beautiful than the episode itself. You've really brought Boober and Red to life here... their poses are so expressive. Expressive as in saying, "We may die, but at least we have each other." Powerful stuff.
A most definite for me!

I hope to have s'more fraggle pics soon.

I grabbed up the first season DVD recently and I have to say you reaaally caught the essense of that moment just before things go right again...
Red: "What do you think it's like? To Die?"
Boober: "I don't know Red, I don't think anybody does."
MM! it sends shivers down my spine, man.

Heh heh. Awesome. That's a powerful episode. I think it would've been better if they had that one as that season's finale.

I love your point of view on Jim Henson's work! I always thought it was different amongst the other "cookie cutter kids" TV shows. I really like this drawing. Boober is my favourite Excellent work!

This has to be just about my favorite episode. I think that's one of the things I like about Fraggle Rock, they were willing to put some drama in it. It made the series more realistic instead of just having a series where everything is happy all the time. Alot of kids' shows won't do that because they're afraid of traumatising young children and upsetting some parents, but Fraggle Rock put in enough drama without going overboard.
Besides there's stuff that I catch in the show now that I didn't catch when I was a kid, and I think that's because I'm an adult now.

Yup yup! It's one of the best. Prolly in the top 20 for me. Kids shows today.... and most other shows too for that matter, are just big piles of butt.

Great Greasy Green Gorgs!!! This is an amazing piece of work! I really like the details in this pic, like the sparkly kinda look in Red's tears, and just how realistic the rocks around them look too. It's so feels so real, it looks like you have really capture the magic of this episode! I hope I didn't sound strange, but it really is cool.
