Hey, since I've got your attention, I noticed that you faved this guy's drawing [link] . Don't get too used to it because it's one of mine from another site that he took and added all that red crap to it. I've reported it to Deviant Art. Heh heh. No joke. I've always been a fan of Watership Down. I wanna read it again. I've read it 3 times I think. I love the movie too. I remember waaaay back when CBS would show it. I always thought it was neat seeing a cartoon with blood. I adore the soundtrack. You prolly don't wanna hear my opinion on that recent cartoon series though. Heh.

Although, for the life of me, I don't understand the outright virulent hatred most Watership Down fans hold for it. I seem to be one of maybe three people who likes it as much as the film and the novel.

I don't like Bigwig's mane or that Blackberry is a girl. What really turned me off though was Pipkin's little Disney-kid voice. I watched a little bit of it on line and it just wasn't for me. It seemed like that cartoon strayed so much from the original story that it was practically a completely different thing. But that's just me though.

Well, with regards to the changes in Blackberry and Pipkin, they actually put those to good use. In the series, Captain Campion ends up turning against General Woundwort and assists the Watershippers, and falls in love with the now-female Blackberry; she ends up becoming a major factor in Campion's redemption.
As for Pipkin, initially I, too, was annoyed that he was a little kid instead of just a runt like Fiver, but then, in the two-part Season 1 finale, he gets captured by the Efrafans, and Woundwort takes him under his wing for the dual purpose of coaxing him into revealing the location of Watership Down, and grooming him as a possible heir.
So, for better or worse, at least they didn't make the changes for no reason and then not do anything with them.

Hmm. That sounds interesting actually. What sort of audience is the series geared towards? Is there any cartoon violence like the movie?

While there isn't any blood, there is some violence and death, albeit mostly off-screen (although this can be effective, such as in the silent flashback showing the death of Woundwort's mother - we don't see her get killed, but instead see young Woundwort's horrified reaction).
It seems to be geared at young adults/pre-teens, but I personally don't see why adults can't enjoy it as well. My only real complaints are that the animation in the first two seasons is rather blah, and the music is annoyingly repetitive sometimes. if you want to read ALL my opinions of the series, check out my DA journals.
As to whether or not it still airs, this I don't know, although I do have most of the series in AVI files.

I dunno why, I just for some reason thought they made it all cute like Care Bears or something. Sounds better than I thought. I know they did a Pizza Hut kids meal promotion for that show when it came out.
