So, I decided to draw cars today. Haven't drawn in a while. Especially in perspective. So rusty...Some trace-over to understand how to draw cars & perspective again. Then exaggerated some features. I could have probably pushed the exaggeration further.
Car images from Google search.

You say that you are rusty with this but I absolutely ADORE your work with these vehicles. They look amazing and adorable! Each face is a splendid personification of the expression already displayed by each vehicle in the photos! I am very glad that my friend Ian introduced me to your artwork as this was a lovely little treat to start off the day with. And now, hopefully if you do not mind me rambling for a little, I'd like to go down over this list and give each one of these drawings the proper attention that they deserve and commend your talents with each one ^^
I LOVE that dopey little energetic smile you've given the Pacer! It is both hilarious and very endearing and captures the vibes you get off the actual photo. Also I like the way his antenna is curled over like a tail in the back. It just sort of adds this level of energy and excitement to the entire body you've drawn. It sort of reminds me of a puppy or a young dog standing at the door waiting to go outside so happily and enthusiastically that it seems like in that moment it is the most important thing in that dog's life! Something that will be cherished always. "Are we going for a drive? I'm cool with going for a drive! Hey! Let's go for a drive! I'm ready if you are!" *waggles rear and antenna* lol it looks like at any moment he's going to start jumping up and down unable to contain his joy. I absolutely love what you did with the Pacer!
The Citation, despite his somewhat pouting face also kind of makes me chuckle a little bit to myself. With that brow and bumper on both the drawing and the photo he kind of reminds me of Bert from Sesame Street XD I'm sure you can see the resemblance too. XD for whatever reason he looks so upset and annoyed by something and I am absolutely loving it! Brilliantly done and absolutely wonderful! With a face like that it hints that there's some kind of story behind him, like perhaps he was a city car who just got worn down by the hustle and bustle of the city and just got sour. Or maybe his owner is a tar reckless and it annoys the poor car to no end! There's a lot of potential in these drawings and I think that speaks in turn a lot about you and your talents! You Have incredible artwork and I'm really looking forward to exploring your gallery and seeing what you upload in the future!!
The Le Sabre has the most marvelously wicked and snide expression I have ever seen portrayed on a car in my life! The original photo looks like it is just seething with this sense of arrogance and spitefulness and you capture that down to the every last detail! Simply fantastic! You can almost hear the kind of voice a car like that with that kind of outward expression would have! And yourΒ exaggeratingΒ of the points and angles on the body give the car an even more aggressive feeling to match his nasty expression and give the drawing even more power overall! So again, brilliant work here!Β
I always crack a smile when I see these jovial looking Mazdas Β zipping down the road! They always look so incredibly happy and full of cheer, an emotion that is beautifully captured and executed in your picture! The little Mazda you've drawn looks so bubbly and tender, happy and carefree beyond words. The red blush-like shading you did also adds a level of warmness to the otherwise explosively cheery and jolly and spicing up the already powerful expression with many cooperating layers. I have to commend you with the Mazda especially. Out of all the ones you drew here, which are all good, the Mazda has more of a feeling that you just reach out and pinch those big blushing cheeks from the way you colored it . And it is a WONDERFUL effect! lol I didn't think it was possible for the Mazda-3 to look any more happy then it already did but somehow you really put a lot of emotion into this drawing which trumps even the original but remains spot on faithful at the same time. A wonderful blend for a wonderful picture I think ^^
And lastly but by no stretch of the imagination even remotely least the poor sad wildcat. My mind instantly goes to that cartoon dog Droopy when I see this poor sorrowful tired eyed vehicle. I personally LOVE old cars with a passion! Easy to work on, great style, tough, and a lot of history that comes with them, lol so seeing one looking so sad can't help but make me proclaim "Awwww!!" XD lol seriously, he looks so upset with himself like he just leaked oil in the garage or something and is currently getting reprimanded by his owner. The expression to me just screams "I'm sorry." to me and it is simply heart pulling and adorable at the same time XD I do hope that I've not worn out the word adorable during this comment and review of your spectacular picture but you have a very cute style of artwork so I hope you can forgive the abuse of the word ^^'Β
So again I think you did a simply amazing if not stellar job on this picture! I deeply look forward to talking with you and seeing more of your artwork ^^ Wonderful job and a great thing to enjoy before I go on holiday for the weekend. Thank you very much for creating such a wonderful piece of artwork and uploading it ^^ Don't ever change ^^Β

Oh goodness I am so late to responding! I don't check deviantart as much as I used to but thank you for much for liking my work! Really means a lot! Pssh, every car has a personality and an adorable face to it! (Excluding the Nissan Juke, IMO its face is just odd, nice back design though). For me, cars are your awesome pet companion buddy! That's why I like to characterize them with the charm and loyalty of a dog and the curiosity and spontaneous-ness of a cat.

Oh think nothing of it madam! I'm just ticked pink to be speaking with you ^^ I have admired your artwork ever since Ian first introduced me to it. You artwork is nothing short of incredible! lol and I agree with that! I love going to the store and looking at the faces that few other people take the time to see! I myself am actually trying to buy an old car up the road from me with a LOT of personality! She's rusted up pretty bad but she's got quite the story to match her XD she even has a little smirk on her face that comes from part of her grill being broken; if you'd like I can send you some pictures of her I tool. I call her Cassandra.

It's hard not to see the Mazda with a wide smile, even when you're not looking for faces in cars. That's really impressive how you worked so many faces and expressions into the car's natural looks. I'm particularly intrigued by the Citation, as I love them. Yours looks rather shy or maybe sneaky.

Thanks! I like Citations too. It seemed to me that the arrangement of the grille and headlamps are very horizontal acting like a stern low brow line if that makes sense? lol

I really like these sketches, especially the red one! It interesting how you are able to give expressions with headlights for eyes. I've tried that and it looked not so good.
Will you be drawing more car sketches?

Thank you! And for the DAwatch too. I checked out your page and I think the little yellow car with the red ribbon looks adorable. I do have more sketches but they are towards my undergrad animation film I'm currently working on. If you'd like to take a look here's a link to the blog: [link]

That clip was so sad with and without the music. The expressions alone were enough to get the point across.
It was cute the way the car was sleeping in the child's bed. (That bit was similar to what I've written in a story a whle back.)
Did you take courses in illustration as well?
I had interest in illustration and animation, but that would mean double majoring, right?
I wish you luck with completing the film and I hope to see more works from you!

That's great, because I thought I had to draw in a style that the majority liked.
Thanks for the info!

CARS YAAAY! These are awesome, you've given personality to each of them, it's like caricaturing a vehicle - I love it!

OMG THESE ARE SO CUTEEE!! I just wanna hug every one of them! Especially that sad little Wildcat.. aww : (
Wow I can really see the animationess in your drawing, that kinda quick sketchiness that still manages to look stylized.
Those first two at the top look SO much like they were pulled right out of TBLT. XD It's actually quite refreshing.. seeing a car that looks like it's from that movie HAPPY for once. I've got a friend that freaking LOVES Pacers.. I need to show her this she'll wanna glomp that little guy. For me, a Pacer always makes me think of 'A Goofy Movie' which I used to own as a kid. XD
Fitting face for the Citation, can't really see any expression in there can ya? Just a blank determined stare. O_O
Now geeze is that Electra awesome looking, looks like she(?) would make a perfect villain car for sure! Those big sharp lines and slitted frustrated looking eyes. Not to mention most of it's face is teeth. XD I think this one is my favorite.. maybe because I love classic cars.
Ah and yes, the new Mazdas, you can't NOT put one of these car in there can you? They've gotta have one of the most blatant faces on any car out right now. It's so blatant it's kinda scary.. just that constant smile? It's creepy the same way a clown is creepy. O.o;; You kinda made her look a bit less so by having her eyes CLOSED though.
Mazda: YAAAAAYYY!! ^D^
Oh god that Wildcat! Geez I just feel so BAD for that poor little car. <: / I don't even know why it's so sad but it's just.. GOD. It just looks like it needs some one to hug it so badly! Like it's freaking lonely as hell thinking no one gives a crap about him.
You know, if you want another car to doodle, you should SO draw a face on the old 1993 Mazda Miata those cars are SO adorable! [link]

I think what made Cars the least rated Pixar film was because the storytelling isn't as intriguing as Pixar's previous films. Another reason I've heard from people is that they find it weird that it's set in a world where humans don't exist. I guess the question is "what happened to them." Personally, Cars is not one of my favorite films by Pixar for story, but it is definitely one of my favorites for design. I want to get the art book for it.
Ah, another childhood movie I liked. It's a really fun film! Too bad the sequel was just weird. XD Yeah, I liked this song/scene too for the other cars/passengers. I liked the old lady's hot rod. XD
I think this video sums up what I think about childhood cars: [link]

That's my problem with Cars too.. I would have much rather preferred it took the BLT/Toy-story approach and had the cars in the human world. Have you seen the movie idea I've got for such a thing?
I saw the sequel, yeah it wasn't so good. XD
That was beautiful, thank you for sharing that video with me, I feel so happy when I see a car in the hands of people who deeply care about it. That was so wonderful seeing the dad's reaction.

Yeah it's not often they really kinda focus on how painful such a transformation would be. I can't remember what movie it was, maybe American Warewolf in London? Some movie, where it has one of the most realistic and painful looking transformations ever.. it's really awesome looking though. But if I remember its like.. you hear the bones restructuring and crackling and stuff it's like..eww....
Well I do like your idea, I mean even I can't look and not see a happy little doggy wagging it's antenna hehe.. but I don't see how you could make a movie based around that premise.. maybe tell me more? Would the humans know the cars are alive?
Haha I liked that phrase you used "a well groomed car." XD
Well that's better then nothing, I mean it's good that you at least feel that way, that something as faithful as a car alive or not should at least have that faithfulness repayed in respect. Even something like that still worries me though.. because it sounds at least like it's borderline not caring. Like it wouldn't be enough to stop you from scrapping your car if it was in a wreck.. like you wouldn't fight for it like you would a person.. It sounds like it's not really caring about the car itself, but just doing it because like you said.. it's practice for life, for acting that way towards other PEOPLE but not cars. I could be wrong though so don't feel offended.. in fact I hope I'm wrong. I just know that with Lilly even if she was totaled I'd still take her home and keep her with me, I've told her she's never going to see a junkyard as long as I'm with her. I'd try fixing her up myself no matter how long it took..
Thank you! ^^ I can do the female voices if I don't sing out loud.. if I like kinda gently sing above a whisper.. But if I try to sing it out loud I start sounding like one of the Bee Gees. XD
Yeah I think I did ok with the Indy car, though his voice is pretty average. Actually I'm most proud of how I did the Hearse, I think I matched his voice really well. My voice is naturally deep so the Green truck was no problem.
