Here is a simple picture I decided to make of Russell and Kevin (I believe that's the name of the bird) from Pixar's new 2009 movie Up!Done with Prismacolors and Copic markers, Micron and Fabel Castell Pens.
Photoshop for color fixing and lighting effect.

cute! Love Kevin! you know i met her in a lucid dream (and told her i loved her). she was (and still is) the best bird ever!
but why is she floating on balloons?
more importently, how is she floating on balloons? to lift a 500 lb bird would lake millions of balloons, unless those balloons are giant 104 inch (8' 8" diamater) balloons.

Actually, according to what the Pixar co-writer and director have to say about Kevin.......the bird is actually a FEMALE GASP! Russell may have named the bird Kevin assuming it as a male....you can tell Kevin is a she by the way she cradles and kind of "mothers" Russell in the clip of "Meet Kevin".
Kevin is such a sweet bird. I wanna buy myself a plushie of the Snipe in Disney Store sometimes before the movie comes out.
I love the way birds act (agreeing with Pixar co-writer Bob Peterson, who also voiced Dug). It's fun observing their head movements and two Kevin's figure...it's adorable to see what surprises she'll bring up for Carl and Russell.
Also, I thought Carl and Kevin together are a funny pair because first Carl was the one to say "bug off" to other people. Now, he has this birdcawing to him "bug off".

So funny! I really like how Pixar's character designs are starting to show a little variety, especially in the eyes. Have you noticed that Russell's eyes do not have so much white and the darker sections are larger? They make his look a bit Asian.

For Russell, they were trying to resemble his face to one of the known Pixar animators (who also voiced Emile in Ratatouille), Pete Sohn.
Yea, they kept it of the same variety of eyes a bit for the previous movies, like Ratatouille, Cars, Finding Nemo, etc.
Have you seen Kevin eat the balloons and Carl's walker? It's hilarious!!!

I do like the change of eyes he has though. It fits his "puggy" character. The change also gives Pixar a new feel almost..

I agree. Pixar focus more to getting the anatomy on animating humans and they keep getting better on it, including on how they made the animals. 
For Kevin's gender being a girl, my DA friend Mitch explained about her by saing, "I bet they counted on people getting confused in that respect. I'm willing to bet that they did it on purpose."

XD Nowadays, people come up with characters where you don't know the gender until it's directly pointed out. I know my main OC is like that. XD
