of all your great pieces..i like this the most
yes...the color combination rocks, orange and reds on blue and black..how good can that get?
and an off center starfish? not an everyday subject.
although the setting can be described as hallmark material, the color sure swings it differently.
great shot/manipulation..whatever you call it..great work

you too? I like this one. I like the composition. It's like..yeah the sea star is there...but the main focus is the water. I love it..so dark yet so bright.

Wow, congrats on the daily deviation! I think however, that the one upturned point of the starfish's leg needs a little more shading beneath it to give it a more realistic feel. Lovely as always.

i don't understand how no one has addressed the lighting issues presented here. its not a "perfect" manipulation by any stretch of the imagination. the harsh lighting of the background is clearly not represented here in the starfish, though it could have been easily faked by better drop shadows and some clever burning in photoshop of the side and backs of the arms facing the viewer, as these could not possibly be lit as plainly and flatly as the rest judging by the rest of the background that the starfish has been placed into. the scene is full of contrast but the starfish is not. the starfish does not have a good defining black in it and feels flat in comparison to the background shot, which is a much better capture. you did an ok job cutting the starfish from whatever environment it was in before but not as good of a job integrating it into the scene as you could have. there was no attempt in placing any bubbles or residue from the ocean or any sand on the starfish, though the area surrounding the starfish both in front and behind have that treatment, making it look like (if it hadn't beenf or the lighting issue) someone had just set down the starfish rather than having it washed up ashore and found. by cloning and unsettling some of the ground around it you could have given the starfish some depth in the scene itself rather than just a drop shadow to make it appear like its floating. i hope you don't mind some criticism, you certainly have gotten enough praise. oh and congrats on the daily deviation. i can criticize all i want but i've never had one.

It still looks like water to me. However, I like the way the manipulation enhances the dark murky feelings and at the same time brings out a calmness from the condition of the water and the light reflecting off of it. I can definitely see the "lonely" in it. Did you take the picture and then manipulate it, or was it completely made from pictures you found from other places?
Very nice job, and congratulations on being featured.

Rock. This really depects the emotion. I've always thought that the ocean was a great place to go when you're feeling lonely--something about the sound of the waves.
