Description
After becoming reacquainted with the anime classic "Robotech", I started going further in learning more about the franchise, from its history to its impact on popular culture. After a second viewing of one of the recent animated movies, "Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles", and reading about the resolution of the recent legal battle between Harmony Gold (Robotech's owners) and Hasbro over a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive toy from this year, I started coming up with a squad for the Robotech Defense Forces myself, with a bit of a twist. We've only gotten the names of select squads of Veritech fighters, such as Skull Squadron or Wolf Squadron, so now I'm adding one to the mix. Let my fanfic explain:"In the aftermath of the battle between Primus (godlike creator of the Transformers) and the malevolent entity known as the Anti-Monitor, the multiverse became greatly affected by the aftershocks of said battle, in many different ways. In one alternate universe, designate Earth-R--a world where humanity for three generations fought off three different alien invasions known as the Robotech Wars--new counterparts to inhabitants of other universes emerged in Earth-R's history...
When the Robotech Expeditionary Force learned of a new threat emerging in the form of their one-time allies--the robotic Haydonites--preparations were made to return to Omicron sector in order to locate the missing SDF-3 flagship, headed by Admiral Rick Hunter. [As depicted in the final moments of "Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles".] On their way out of Earth orbit, the crew of the Ark Angel, commanded by Captain Vince Grant, encounter a massive starship near Jupiter, bearing a strange, red symbol resembling a robotic face. Grant orders Skull Squadron commander Maia Sterling to take two other fighters with her and explore the ship. While inside, Sterling, along with fellow pilots Scott Bernard and Marcus Rush, stumble upon the ship's occupants: giant mechanoids of varying designs. Rush's scanners detect life signs emanating from only one of the robots, a red and white mechanoid with pieces of its body resembling aircraft--almost similar to a Veritech fighter's robot mode. Grant orders the three to bring the mechanoid onto the Ark Angel's cargo bay, where chief science officer Louie Nichols will examine it.
As Nichols and his android assistant Janice Em go over the mechanoid's vitals, its visor-like eye lights up and it awakens with a start, surprising all in the cargo bay. Janice manages to calm him down and convinces him to explain everything to Captain Grant. When Grant and his senior staff assemble in the cargo bay, the mechanoid then tells his story: he is known as Jetfire, and is from the planet Cybertron, a world full of living mechanoids as inhabitants. Their world for ages had been caught up in a civil war between the two factions of mechanoids: the heroic Autobots and evil Decepticons. Knowing that their world's fuel supplies would not last long under these conditions, Autobot supreme leader Optimus Prime assigned Jetfire and a squad of Autobots to take a cruiser and attempt to locate new energy sources on other worlds. When Jetfire's ship emerged from a transwarp fold in this galaxy, they were caught in a deadly meteor storm that wouldn't give the ship any elbow room to maneuver. Propulsion was damaged beyond repair, as was most life-support systems. Feeling that Jetfire was too important to be scrapped, one of the Autobots assigned to the mission, Springer, knocked him out and put him in the only undamaged CR chamber, placing him in suspended stasis. From what Sterling, Bernard and Rush told him of the condition the other Autobots were in, Jetfire figures that they were long offline before the Ark Angel arrived, beyond any help. With his ship heavily damaged and human space-fold tech incompatible with Cybertronian transwarp technology, Jetfire, for the time being, is stranded in this part of the galaxy. Captain Grant promises him that they'll dedicate a portion of their journey to helping Jetfire find a way home, using data retrieved from the ship's computers. Grant also extends an invitation to join up with them in their search for Admiral Hunter and the SDF-3, to which Jetfire accepts. After uploading most of the important information on Robotech Defense Forces procedure, Jetfire is given command of a small squad of Veritech pilots left over from Wolf Squadron, most of which had been folded into Skull Squadron. Wishing to honor the memory of the Autobots assigned to his expedition, Jetfire dubs his team 'Wrecker Squadron', and adopts their battle cry--'Wreck and rule!'." Wrecker Squadron is made up of the following pilots:
Harold "Hal" Jordan
Callsign: Spectre
Carol Susan Jane Danvers
Callsign: Warbird
Alyssa Renee Stall
Callsign: Bombshell
Derek Wildstar
Callsign: Star Blazer
Together, Wrecker Squadron becomes one of the most-accomplished squads in the Robotech Defense Forces.
+Notes:
*Jetfire's original Generation One figure from 1985 originally was a Robotech toy, based on Roy Fokker's Veritech fighter from The Macross Saga. His roots as a Robotech toy were one of the factors that stirred the idea for Wrecker Squadron.
*Jetfire has taught all four Wrecker Squadron members how to utilize their Veritech fighters' robot mode in hand-to-hand combat situations, via instruction of the Cybertronian martial art Diffusion.
*Jordan's wingman in Wolf Squadron was this universe's version of Tom Kalmaku, and was among those of Wolf Squadron who were killed during the fight against the Invid above Earth. In most universes, he's a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force. His callsign is a homage to his time as the second modern incarnation of the DC superhero the Spectre.
*Danvers's wingman in Wolf Squadron was this universe's version of Anna Marie Raven, better known as Rogue of the X-Men, and was among those of Wolf Squadron who were killed during the fight against the Invid above Earth. In most universes, she becomes the superheroine Ms. Marvel (and later Captain Marvel). Her callsign is a homage to the name she used in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
*Stall's wingman in Wolf Squadron was this universe's Brad J. Armbruster, better known as G.I. Joe's fighter jock Ace, and was among those of Wolf Squadron who were killed during the fight against the Invid above Earth. In most universes, she is known as Bombstrike, forward air controller for G.I. Joe who was introduced in the 2005 "Valor Vs. Venom" series. Like Bombstrike, she has two brothers named Dwight and Thomas, who serve in different Veritech squadrons. Her callsign is a nod to her figure's proposed name before it became Bombstrike.
*Wildstar's wingman in Wolf Squadron was this universe's Mark Venture, and was among those of Wolf Squadron who were killed during the fight against the Invid above Earth. He is based on one of the main characters from the classic anime "Star Blazers", a homage which is also found in his callsign.
I would like to thank deviantart member Ironlantern723 for allowing me use of his Jetfire microhero, which I modified a bit. This is my first Microhero-based piece of work, and I am proud of what came out of it. I tried as best to approximate each of the human squad members' uniforms to the designs of the ones found in Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, but I know I'm going to have my share of critics. Ah well, enjoy!

It was just her nickname, you know...
I've been rediscovering the show recently, having only caught glimpses on Toonami. I've recently finished season 3 (the season that featured Mint as one of the main characters), and now I just need to see the remainder of season 2 (having only seen the first six episodes so far).
How do you like the team I made?
