Description
Finally, Angus is finished. File is huge, because Angus is so epic haha. I had basically everything but the mane and tail done all this time. I finally got to finish it yesterday. This is a completely new pattern. It is closer to the giraffe than my original deer pattern.Originally I made the mane/tail with yarn, but it was too thick and light weight to give the effect I needed. It wouldn’t lay flat against his neck. It would be perfect for Mohawks, but that isn’t what I needed. So I took it all out and put cotton embroidery floss on his neck instead. It still takes some pressing to get it to work right, but is much better. Plus there are more strands which is better. I had hoped to make the tail slightly poseable but this is fine too. Being able to woosh at some flies would come in handy. The mane is extra long, I will trim it later. Better to make it too long than too short.
Like the original pattern designs, I learn new things every time. This one has a big too big of a belly. I really tried focusing on making him super muscular like a real Clydesdale. I started with the body first so I had to make the rest to match it. Really its fine, in the new versions though I’m going to take out a couple stitches. I usually don’t try to work the color changes in on the first pattern, but with knowing how to do it with the deer pattern I gave it a go. I’m happy with it. I still don’t like how crochet jumps when you change colors, but that is what the bottom of the crochet is for haha. Also it you can see, I tried to work in the strong jaw bone. At first im like this just looks like I put a deer head upside down, but its not. He has a fluffy chin too haha.
EDIT: You can get the basic horse pattern now on my Etsy page. Foals can also be bought on the same listing: www.etsy.com/listing/162311822…

Cool to see you have ravelry, that pattern is cute. I really want to pursue further into crocheting, but sewing is just my weakness. Q_Q

Thanks! Yea, sewing the pieces together is the least fun part about these.

You are actually the first person to mention that lol I wish he could stand by himself. Unlike the toy horses that stand like this, He cant use his tail as a tripod to balance on. On one of his back feet I used a straight pin to put make sort of an upside down V with his foot and the pin. I thought it would take a lot to keep him up but it took only one pin.

You use wire to make these poseable, right? Do you have a special technique for dealing with the sharp ends?

Depending if they are going to be handled by small children I will either cut the ends flat so they don't poke you or curl the edges to they are sure not to hurt you even if they manage to push out of the work somehow.

I thought about doing one, especially since I just love this little guy. She would have to be super tiny though. So I think I will make a larger version of Angus so I can make a normal scale Merida. I still have to figure out a good human pattern haha.
