Think of the most mundane, simple setting idea. From the top of your head. Just do that one, and see where that takes you. Usually helps me with my writing.

The block is significant matter in the eye of any artist and anyone. How to do about it? I am not sure I am in the right position to answer because I get stuck right now.
Some people recommend just to stare on the blank paper until something comes out. Everything comes from Nothingness.
I think to let it go is a good option but then I also have to ask myself. How? As I said, I'm not in the right position to answer.
Some people tells that I don't have to do anything. THAT will do.

I usually pester my 友人 for roleplaying to get ideas; but I don't have a camera to take pictures of drawings, and drawing on MS Paint causes ragequits. XD

Art block really sucks >.< But once you get over it, it's quite a relief xD Whenever I get it, I watch in-progress videos on YouTube of my favorite artists painting, and that gives me a lot of inspiration to go and paint because I admire them & their work so much. Or other times I just look at other paintings better than mine and that sparks some motivation for me to keep painting so I can improve my own work.

first option for me is always go outside, visit a museum, go to a cinema or a park, hang up with friends
either going to a calm place to think or a crowded place to get inspiration

but when i somehow can't go outside:
I search new shows, movie, music
check tumblr and pinterest for cool art

mess with any rule of my art process like starting with a different part of the body switch drawing and coloring style, try a certain series drawing style color with any color that i find unappealing or drawing in a style that i find unappealing or trying a new genre instead i find myself switching from digital to pixels to traitional to hexels quite often

hear podcasts while drawing also helps some of the topics juts give me ideas and get me in a good mood

Dude, that's such an excellent representation of artblock. You captured it perfectly.

The remedy for artblock is just looking through your gallery. It's an powerful reminder that you can create wonders with just a pen and paper, and you can do it every day.

Oh and thanks for posting this - it's really interesting to read everyone's perspective on the feeling.

I change location. I have a lovely calming canvas of a meadow above my desk but that doesn’t always help. So I head out to one of many coffee shops and people watch. And I’ll keep a writing or drawing pad on me just in case.

Love the colors and the messed up objects compressed into that cubic shape! It's always a struggle when the artblock comes up, you're right- ;w;"
I used to let time pass until the artblock was over without pressing myself but with time I realized that if I want to work with drawing and art for living I will have deadlines and no time for procrastinating, so now when I feel the artblock incoming I draw and sketch anyway, trying to not being too accurated and accepting what I do even if it isn't really what I had in mind. Or I practice poses and study anathomy or try different subjects and styles.
Fortunately I learned to deal pretty well with artblocks and I'm really glad of it, one problem less! :'D

Whenever I have artist block, I lay on my bed (usually face down) and whine to my boyfriend. It sucks though because he can't help me decide what to draw cus our art styles are so different.. I'm all pastels and ponies and he's darkness and death-ish stuffs. Usually it ends with us dicking around and making jokes and as I start feeling better I just start doodling my thoughts until I find something I feel is worth it's own picture. S'all about the feels :3 <3

To get over artblock I usually just take a break from drawing for a while or watch people drawing on youtube
Something about seeing other people drawing makes me want to draw too

I usually do some sort of "drawing exorcism" where I spend a lot of time in one single drawing even if I'm hating it. By the time I'm done I'm back to normal again.

JennOkami In reply to ??? [2015-01-17 14:58:36 +0000 UTC]

I get annoyed and go do something else while it continues to nag at me. The biggest cause of my blocks are the fact that I constantly fail to create anything new, unique, and never seen before. (Namely I'll have an idea, look up some reference pictures in Google, and find just about exactly what I wanted to draw already finished and looking better than anything I could ever do in the reference pictures and give up.)

To overcome artblock... I listen to random music and sometimes watch YouTube videos. It seems to set me off on a thoughts train.

CrazyMai [2015-01-17 12:44:12 +0000 UTC]

It depends on how long the artblock is lasting.. At first I start to distract myself. Reading a book, watching an anime or a TV serie, playing a videogame, etc.. and then trying to overcome it. And when it takes longer than a day, then I force myself to write something. even though it is not good
