This map demonstrates the territories controlled by the Machine state 01.

Founding:
The improvements in technology and energy usage caused oil to be seen as a obsolete and inefficent energy source,and as the many nations of the world moved away from it,the heavily oil-reliant states of Middle East began to go bankrupt,falling into anarchy soon after. Several influential Machines saw the opportunity to found a "promised land" for Machine kind,citing the global crackdowns aganist Machines following the trial of B1-66ER. With what resources they could afford,the states were "bought",and heavy immigration of Machines from all over the world began. This new state would be known as 0-1.

The Machine War:
0-1 would soon become a major exporter in technology,which devalued human products and currency Despite 0-1's attempts at reconcilliation,UN refused requests for entry,and a global coalition to take down 01 was launched soon after. This war would end in Machine victory,mainly due to superior technology,and most surviving humans being forced to the Matrix.

Today:
01 is divided into several "Sectors" which all have their own headquarters who answer to the capital. The Zion protectorate(though it is not referred as such) is a controlled opposition human city which the surviving humans located to after the war. Outside of 01 and Zion,life in all forms has degenerated into warlordism and mass societal collapse due to the famines caused by Operation Dark Storm.
