Are you sure the light is coming from the surface? That is only your assumption of the scene. Sure they're under water somewhere but we don't know exactly where. It could be anywhere in the universe and the light source could be anything. How I see the colors is that it's artistic freedom and if it was like you say, light comes from behind Soundwave's back he balance of the whole picture would be off because it would only concentrate to the right upper corner. Now that light comes from under Megatron, it eats a lot of "empty" space (his exposed back) and makes everyone focus on Soundwave and where Megatron is facing while keeping the balance of the whole image. Does that make any sense?

No, that makes a lot of sense. It just looks like Megatron is in the process of sinking, rather than actually on something. I mean, there are a lot of things down in the deep blue sea, creates of nightmares, really. And considering how dark is can be on the ocean flood, that are a lot of bio-light oriented creatures down there. However, seeing as how the peace looks beautiful the way it is, I can respect that the lighting has been manipulated to make the characters shine is such a magnificent way. As much as my logic says that the lighting is off, the rest of says it's perfect, and that's how it should be. And you're right, I was just making assumptions, since I figured Megatron would have been on earth the whole time. My mistake. Wonderful art though.

It's okay. We make assumptions constantly and that's why we're having this discussion!

Quite often I've noticed that my logic fights against most art I see, and it also causes me problems with my own art trying to be this "perfect perspective/all details visible/all lighting and shadows correct" -type of an artist and it's really, really draining. It's a long process to loosen up and I have a long way ahead of me. ;u;/
