Description
This is a 5 part pocket etch a sketch compilation of the famous sculpture known as the laocoon. It was an assignment for my Art History 2 class to make your own artistic interpretation of this sculpture, and our teacher didn't want us to just redraw it, so I decided that I was going to do it in 5 portions, each with a different style of shading and rendering. My personal favorite is the 8bit version, which I plan on using in future work.
The piece took roughly 5 hours, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. This is the first assignment I have been able to do in etch a sketch at my art college, so I was totally on board with it
The picture of the laocoon (which I used for reference) is on the upper right, so that you can get a better idea of what I was going for.
EDIT: 2-19-11 Thank you so kindly for the Daily Deviation! I am truly honored!

well, it's a little difficult to explain the exact logistics behind the mechanics of the etch a sketch and how I got comfortable with the functionality of them

Oh, okay. I'm just amazed that you're able to put that much detail into an etch a sketch.

Lol. Well that time seemed to pay off, because it's pretty hard to do what you do. At least for me, I could barely draw anything actually. >3.

The fact that you did each section in a different style managed to somehow make this even more impressive.
Congrats on the DD! Well deserved.

Aw man I wish I could have taken that class. I asked for it every year in high school but since it was a class that encapsulated 2 periods instead of just one nobody ever signed up for it. I asked to independently study it but they apparently didn't even have a solid curriculum for it, which saddens me to an extent.
Very awesome that you had the opportunity to take that class, though!
I didn't learn about it until this year, my sophomore year in college!

Its the only class I liked throughout high school including Forensics. I was the only sophomore that took that class and my friend whom i coerced to take it with me. Enjoy art history~
