Description This is the AH-86 Choctaw attack helicopter used by both the US Army and Marine Corps from my original military sci-fi story. It's supposed to be a near-future replacement for the AH-64 Apache and packs more punch than both the '64 and the RAH-66 Commanche stealth reconnaissance helicopter with somewhat stealthy features, low noise, and low IR emmisions. It features a futuristic NOTAR tail assembly with twin vertical stabilizers jutting from either side of the tail itself and a jet pipe venting thrust for added stability, just as the currently used McDonnel Douglass MD-580 airframe.

interseting idea for a gunship, but how dose it detect enermy ground units first? the AH-64 "Longbow" has a dome atop the main rotors, along with the Fly-by-eye interface.

Oh and the 64 isnt stelth the AH-66 Commanche is the stelth, along with a "silent" mode.

Still not a bad idea

The FLIR and terrain following radar is housed in a sensor turret at the nose, same as on the AH-64A. And in some part, the AH-64 is stealth, not that I remember saying it was...It was designed intentionally for a heavily reduced IR signiture to evade detection by Soviet shoulder-fired and vehicle launched anti-aircraft missiles and has reduced audio signiture, making it quieter.

The rotary cannon is a 20mm, belt fed. Think of the Apache's chaingun in gatling form. This is a multirole attack helicopter by design, and works primarily as a hunter-killer armor destroyer and close-support ariel platform to assist ground infantry below. Though not limited to this role, it can defend itself in an air-air engagement if need be (and proper munitions are provided)

Unfortunatley, as with most slow movers, she's a sitting duck once a good enough SAM radar is locked on, but countermeasers are included. Also, it has retractable tricicle landing gear, just like on the commanche. Forward nose gear stored in the wheel wells (boxy blisters) on both sides of the canopy and the tail gear right below the tail boom to the very rear.

Thanks for your comments, and soon as I have a scanner, I'll have the revised model up and ready for your inspection!

very not bad. nice combination uve got there, wat calibre is that belt fed beast packing? and the undercarriage, what does it have in store? what kind of purpose is it for? is it an AA chopper or an AS chopper or like all others is it both? but from the undercarriage it looks like an tank and support vehicle killer... over all great designs, i like these very much.

Thanks man, and speaking of redesigns, I finally got an original cockpit done for the Choctaw, reshaped (cleaned up more like it) wing stubs, bent the vertical stabilisers, and the rotors evolved from 4 blade to 5 blade. Not bad for only sketching this thing out of boredom!

Nice. I like that it's got NOTAR. I also like the wings- which look like they might work a bit. It might even be able to have one of mine. [link]
