After hearing it in a Multi Animator Project I had to do something with this song, so here's a tidbit from the story involving Wave & Marie's dragon AUs :3

Basically the world they live in becomes taken over by a tyrant that calls himself the 'Scarlet King' (it's Falcon as a dragon of course because I can't have these two without him.) He has Shadalk's abilities; corrupting others and creating shadow crystals which, in this AU, corrupt land around them as well. Wave ends up getting captured by Falcon's corrupted soldiers and Marie doesn't see him for a year. When she finally does, she learns that he is now corrupted and one of Falcon's elite commanders.

In this story though, the only thing that changes on corrupted creatures is their eyes and some times their appearance so Wave's colors here are natural, unlike in TRD where they are a sign of corruption.
