This is my fine friend Palmer again. He's been sticking in my mind a lot as of late. I think it's because I actually recently made a Facebook account for him, with which I've been having an inordinate amount of fun. I mean, I-as-Palmer can comment on stuff that I-as-Jude have posted, and my friends get in on it and all. And they mistake him for Ish, who Palmer really doesn't like, and that's funny, too. (Oh, I'm grinning over the chaos that will ensue when I get a Facebook for Ish. That'll be priceless.)

Actually, I think it's a good writerly tactic. It lets you get inside the mind of your characters by finding out what they like and how they make random observations and stuff. And it helps you figure out stuff about their daily lives. Like, it helped me figure out that Palmer is an animation teacher and that he drinks a lot of tea and likes to bake. It's kind of like roleplaying, too. Which I used to do a lot when I was a kid. Hey...wait...that means that Facebook can be used as a role-playing game. Where...where you can have fictional characters roleplaying with real people, even! ALRIGHT! I love Facebook even more now!
