Description EDIT: I made Miss Alice less uncanny and more colorful. Now back to your regular programming.

Original post:
Gentlemen, behold! My final art project for my color theory class.

The professor asked us to create a composition on Photoshop surrounding a contemporary issue. Most people chose things like self-image, the budget cuts in higher education*, LGBT rights, etc.
*Budget cuts have been greatly affecting my state's universities. Whether this applies to other States as well, I don't know. It's been a popular topic to cover.

I went a different approach and chose birth order/ "middle child syndrome." What better way to portray this issue than with...a history lesson from the D*sney company.

Most people are now aware about the whole Oswald and Mickey situation, but there isn't much talk about Alice, is there? Of course, the main focus is the rabbit, but the little lady contributes to this piece greatly.

A quick history lesson: While Walt and his staff was still working under Universal, before Oswald debuted on the silver screen, there were the Alice Comedies. These short films incorporated live action with small pieces of animation--a milestone in film making mastered in later projects and collaborations (Pete's Dragon, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, etc.). Unlike Oswald, Alice's series was finished under the D*sney Studios and has remained a possession of the D*sney company ever since. Her Comedies were released just one year before D*sney obtained rights to Oswald again, and the ol' girl's been having it easy. Enjoying her time backstage, so to speak.

Everything else, you can probably figure out.

Easter Eggs:
That picture for the audience is not a stock photo. I manipulated photos of D*sney staff from 1927 and arranged them to become an audience. Familiar faces include Ub Iwerks and Roy D*sney.

Alice's chosen outfit, which debuted in Alice and the Wooly West, is a reference to a remark her actor made in an interview. Davis talked about how she was a tomboy when growing up and was delighted to be a cowgirl for once.

Estimated time: 15+ hours. Sweet junipers!

This will never be available for a print--ever.

All characters belong to their respective owners, copyright holders, etc. I just made a pretty picture.

Oh wow, it looks a lot better than I thought it would when you showed me the WIP. Oswald looks really nice and I love how the audience almost appears to be looming over Mickey.

I do find the rope to be a bit sinister though. DX

very well done Pita, I can see what you were getting at with this picture and I see the emotion behind it. I know how that feels being a middle child myself :c also thanks for the history detail! I had no idea!

That looks so amazing. First off, I love how the characters have a cut-out look to them. Secondly, textures! There are so many that I feel like I could reach out and touch it. That's a creative way to use the real people in that manner as an audience.

Overall, despite the sadness I should feel for the primary message here, I can't help but feel comfortable with the entire thing.
