Description More Link's Awakening fanart, yay

I've seen surprisingly little fanart of Koholint island, both on dA and otherwise, which is kind of sad, considering how stunning and awesome and heartwrenching that game is. So here, have a panoramic shot of the island with that ominous giant egg stuck on a mountain. Nothing weird here~
For Link's shield I used the one from the instruction booklet and the manga, so don't be surprised if you've never seen it haha

It didn't turn out as mysterious as I'd envisioned it in my head, and those rocks are still terrible but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Hope you like it too!

Amazing, you really captured the whole feel of Koholint Island, you can just see the thumbnail and realize it's some good stuff from Link's Awakening.

This is a beautiful depiction of an often underrated title. Lovely work on all the little details. Which materials did you use to create this? They work well.

indeed, this game doesn't get enough appreciation, even though i consider it to be easily one of the best in the series. i used watercolours for most of the picture, and gouache (acrylics) for the plants in the foreground and the palm leaves :3

They blend together to create some wonderful effects. I think the game will see a bit of popularity given that Marin appears as DLC in Hyrule Warriors Legends - hopefully the new generation will try to see where she came from. The game's story is done well, the dungeons are great and the little Nintendo references all over the place liven everything up even more.

oh i hope so! i haven't seen the dlc yet but i know it exists, i've been meaning to check it out but i keep forgetting it haha
indeed, people shouldn't forget games like these, it's a shame that it's so often overshadowed by the console games (the fact that it came out between a link to the past and ocarina of time- two of the most popular zelda games- makes people forget that it exists), but it's just so... charming. i liked the nintendo refs as well, it's cool to be going through a dungeon only to find kirby chilling in a corner XD

Yeah, it would get a bit overshadowed by those two, but it really does deserve much more merit. It has some pretty good music, especially if it was to be fully orchestrated.

It's a shame they didn't use it in Smash Bros Brawl, that version was beautiful.

mmh, maybe it's not upbeat enough for a fighting game? still, it's a shame they don't use it more often. in the main series games it's only referenced at twice, once majora's mask with gorman and the indigo-go's, and in triforce heroes where it's one of the songs that plays if you hit that ball thing.

janus-006 In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2016-09-10 23:37:08 +0000 UTC]

I didn't actually play through all of Triforce Heroes. I didn't really enjoy it that much; it didn't feel like a Zelda game. And the version in Majora's Mask sounds nothing like it, either. To be fair, the unused version was really, really beautiful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to janus-006 [2016-09-11 22:40:19 +0000 UTC]

i didn't play it at all because i don't have anyone to play it with, but i watched a let's play on youtube. it's okay for its own right, but yeah, it doesn't really have that "zelda"-esque feel. wait, you can hear it in majora's mask? i only saw people referring to it, and i'm also not sure which unused version you mean

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janus-006 In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2016-09-12 00:27:35 +0000 UTC]

I mean the unused version from Brawl. Should have been clearer about that, my fault.
In Majora's Mask, if you get access to the Milk Bar and have the Deku, Goron and Zora masks, you can use their instruments to play the four parts of a song. While said song is called Ballad of the Wind Fish, it sounds nothing like the song from Link's Awakening.

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to janus-006 [2016-09-12 13:38:52 +0000 UTC]

no problem. oh that song! sounds nothing like it, i think they just borrowed the name ._.

janus-006 In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2016-09-12 14:10:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and that was actually the first time I heard it because I played Link's Awakening after Majora's Mask. Needless to say, I was a tad confused for a while, but then I clicked to the original.
I do love the various soundtracks from across the games; the theme from the Spirit Temple is another favourite.

i actually played link's awakening before majora's mask, so when they referred to ballad of the wind fish in it i was pumped to hear a revamped version, but alas, it did not happen.
zelda in general has such beautiful soundtracks, the temple themes in ocarina of time fit the dungeons so well. my personal favourite's got to be the forest temple (spirit temple might be second though, and the water temple theme is also so soothing)

janus-006 In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2016-09-13 01:21:50 +0000 UTC]

The Water Temple's theme probably had to be soothing, it's regarded as a frustrating dungeon and you need a way to mellow out.

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to janus-006 [2016-09-13 14:10:09 +0000 UTC]

funny enough, maybe it's because i only played the remake and a lot of things were patched up (like adding coloured lights to mark your path and making the iron boots switchable), but i found the water temple to be rather straightforward. i mean, if you don't forget anything before switching the water level it's pretty clear what you have to do

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

janus-006 In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2016-09-13 14:13:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the original was harder to navigate, and switching between the boots was more difficult. They did make sure it was easier to get around in the 3DS remake. However, I still maintain you haven't experienced a hard Zelda dungeon until you've navigated the Great Palace in Zelda II.

i actually own the gba version of zelda 2. i only got to thunderbird ONCE, and it destroyed me. not only is that palace nightmare fuel, but the way to get there is just like traversing hell. i'm glad they never tried doing something like that again, because that's not fun >.>

At least, not without a map, anyway. I have the GBA version of the original as well as Zelda II. They're pretty tough - people might be in for a rude awakening when they encounter them on the Mini-NES.

i had to google mini-nes and omg are they making a miniature replica of the nes with 30 in-built games? that's so random yet so cool
though indeed people who're not used to playing games from that era will be in for a nice surprise haha i've never played the original but i wanna get the gba version as well

Well, people can just use the internet to look things up, and there will probably be instructions provided. Otherwise, they're on their own. I can imagine the gloating coming from Cranky Kong if such a thing was referenced in the Donkey Kong series.
