Well you can't save ALL of your crew. Somebody dies on Virmire, Thane has terminal lung illness and Legion will inevitably be dead by the end of the Rannoch arc. Although I suppose if you never encounter either of them they don't count as crew.

Great picture, Shepard and Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender would probably be my favorite messiah-type characters in fiction.
On my renegade Femshepard run I killed or indirectly killed all the former crew but James, Liara, Garrus, Kasumi, Grunt, EDI and Javik. Killing Wrex, Mordin and Ashley made me feel pretty shitty. Also went with control the Reapers so Femshepard died too.

I think Shep, male and female alike, die regardless. I could be wrong, but I've done every ending and have yet to live. Who knows.

you sure? I got the extended ending and in the "Destroy" ending it shows Shepard breathing and the makers of the game say that's the one were he/she lives (unfortunately at the cost of EDI and the Geth).
