Description Ice, carved yesterday for a museum in Wallaceburg Ontario. There used to be a major plumbing manufacturer located there so the tap was appropriate. This piece is a little over 4' tall. The top half was heat polished while the bottom was left frosty to give the impression of water coming out of a chromed tap.

No problem at all! It's actually quite funny little sculpture and I liked your other ones as well. This one was somewhat unusual. All credit for people who have patience to do ice sculpting!

LOL... Thanks ... This really was kind of a last minute decision to carve the tap. Surprisingly it worked the way I had imagined it. I really should take time to plan these things before picking up a chisel

very interesting! I never knew the properties of ice were so amazing

PixelBlender In reply to mintyoreo [2009-09-04 17:49:42 +0000 UTC]

Heat Polished?... With this kind of ice you can use either a heat gun or a propane torch to liquify the outside layer and if it's cold enough, it will refreeze on the surface nice and shiny. On this one I only polished the tap part and left the water, milky looking. The ice is pretty cold since this one was done outside in Februsry. (there are some related news clippings in my scrapbook page if you're interested)

Well done!

I suppose, with unlimited $, you could mold and cast it out of acrylic or something. Just what everyone needs too... A giant tap in their living room

Small scale? This tap is around 4 feet tall. Scaling up is a problem for me at times since I normally work MUCH smaller.
