It was for a horror-themed contest.
It didn't win, It doesn't make it any less off-putting.

Wait, that was for Believethehorror's contest lat summer, right? I think I remember this one! If I do remember correctly I was certain it would win, because the picture was so striking and well made. It really made you feel scared (in a good way!)

Same here.
I found the top 3 winners a bit odd.
The winners were the only ones with full character sheets and were the same species if not based on the example work.
I asked about the contest having a requirement that in a way penalised the participants or anything that was required in the contest.
Apparently not but I still held my suspicions yet did not worry about the contest much as I get to keep the character as my own.

There were others that had were deep and well thought out designs.

I agree. I thought there were many more striking pieces, like I said, I thought you would win! Maybe they wanted to simplicity of having finished refs? But then again, if so they should have definitely specified that in the rules. At least you got a really cool character now
