This is beautiful, and on a few levels too. First off, the painting style looks lovely and gives a nice sentimental feeling to the whole piece. It works very nicely to create depth of field, giving it even more depth overall than just the lighting and shadows. Even without seeing Princess Luna's face I can pretty much know her mood from the way she's standing, so still and in awe as the wind tousles her mane and tail so fluidly. Also, I just love the mood of moonlight on snow, and speaking of which I love the way you did the crater detail on the bright crescent. The butterfly is wonderful as she sprinkles her little glimmers of peace, though she must be pretty cold in that weather. Sure, the remaining leaves make me think winter came a bit early, though I also love how they accent the snowy branches as they shine.

I kinda thought this was a flower, myself. Some sort of magical flower, so perhaps this is a place of some mystical importance.
Or maybe just a quiet and peaceful corner for somepony to enjoy the scenery.
One nitpick I have is that lighting might be a bit dimmer, seeing as the moon as a waning crescent it couldn't give that much of light as in the picture, the snow is almost glowing. But this is just that β a nitpick.
Another nice feature is the technique β I'm not familiar with the exact name, but it looks like painted with oil and a wide brush. And a little background showing only emphasizes the effect. Neat!
All in all, amazing work.

You definitely could be right about the magical flower, streaming off pollen in the breeze. I considered it too, and reading an early snow into the picture could be a bit of a stretch on my part. Hopefully Plainoasis would correct me if I got anything wrong.

Well, I did thought of the glowing thing in the tree to be flowers and buds, but I think the viewer has the freedom to interpret it anyway they see fit. So to me you are both correct.
