Description
A Kelpie based on vren55's story Equestria’s Changeling Queen and the Abyssal Empress . Basically a much tougher and fiercer version of changelings who dwells in the deep sea.Mainly trying to further my "design" of Kelpies in the cover art for the story. Took a lot of liberty with this one: forgone the original heavily armored design for a more sleek and fluid version. Omitted the wing/fins, and added some barbs on the tentacles.

As it is, I love the design. Very sleek, and the mane is freaking perfect. The only two things I have questions about (and I apologize, I am legitimately curious so please don't take this the wrong way) is why does it have a horn and why does the tail have that fin along the top when the tail is built for vertical movement (the flukes) when such a fin is more helpful in lateral movement like an eel, shark, or alligator's tail?

As for the questions... Well... as an artist my primary concern is to add visual interest to the design. Both the horn and the tail fins contribute to a more complex and interesting overall shape to the kelpie, so I added those elements.
Sorry I did not think of any biological backstory here, because I simply do not have the skill to make a creature design both visually interesting and scientifically believable.

Don't say that! The tentacles look great, plus, the guys straight up told me that most kelpies can control what their tentacles look like. I just do mine the way I do for shits and giggles.
