Sort of a battlemage-like concept that's been cooking in my head for a while, Twi being a good undead that somehow protects the innocent. (I failed at conveying this "good" alignment, may try it later)The challenge is trying to paint a "pure" skeleton without making it look like a mindless golem, my current way to deal with it is to modify/downsize the features that aren't normally visible when there's flesh, esp. the molars. It does not work very well.
Using Photoshop's "lense correction" filter makes it look more cinematic, but will reduce the sharpness of the image.

If you're interested in making "good" undead, have you tried mummies? Clean white cloth definitely conveys a less evil and more restrained feeling, while still being plenty creepy, especially when paired with a mask or a blank face.

Thanks for the advice! I must admit I never considered other types of undead because I wanted to challenge myself at giving a skeleton a personality, and not to just portray them as mindless evil beasts like almost all of the paintings done on skeletons (liches, dracoliches etc.) that I've seen. But I'll definitely keep other types of undead in mind for potential future arts.

No matter how you try, a skeleton wil always look evil XD Maybe a nice cloak will help, instead of the tattered cloth you gave her.

Hmph! In my paintings may be. But just look at those Undertale arts, and you'll see skeletons don't have to look evil.
Although the comment on the costume does raise quite a valid point, I'll keep that in mind.

Indeed, there's a difference between realism and highly stylised depictions. I'm merely trying to point out that in stylised drawings many stereotypes can be broken, and if I did a stylised drawing instead of a realistic painting (which I believe is what you meant by "actual skeleton") I would have succeeded in making a skeleton look not evil, but then that would not be a challenge anymore, no?

Yes, a stylised looks makes everything easier. I mean, MLP itself is a good example.
So, what else? I like the idea of the magic...heart, I suppose? Maybe slightly brighter 'eyes' would help too.
