I seriously need to learn how to contrast better. And I want to find a new shading technique to accomplish that.

I have tons of pencils that I've experimented with, but somehow I always feel most comfy using the less complex tools. I probably own about 20 pencils of different B/Hs....

What about different rubbers, using tissue, etc?
As well as using mech pencils, they're brilliant for detail.

I've experimented with tissues....what do you mean by rubbers? I mean, I've got my favorite kneaded eraser that feels like rubber.

And yeah, I think I want to move to mechanical pencils. Much more convenient.
