I really like the focus, detail and somehow the noise. Did you purposly work in ISO 1600 to get this effect or were you working in low light?

Definitely low light, as you guessed
But I like the 5D noise, especially on the B&W

Indeed, it gives it a really nice grain - Flash would have just spoilt it.
