Yes, sunshine come from the back but it would look pretty dark and dull without the light on them imo.
Like example.. you should always use flash when you take a portrait photo with a sunset in the back. So lets just imagine there is a big white mushroom infront of them casting light back onto them?

I agree, backlighting without any other source makes it too dark unless you're going for silhouettes c;
Haha yes, I like the idea of a huge white glowing mushroom xD their glory-ish faces also match the glowy sunset. Imo it worked very well (with or without the mushroom)
